AVID HD NATIVE CARD INTO BLUE 192

Postby rick » Fri Feb 07, 2014 5:46 pm

anybody just got a new hd native pci card without running the new grey converters

ie just the new card into old converters .. i dont want to buy new converters if i dont have to .

i just went to see if its possible and the connecter and cable that comes with a hd native card is
a different size ..
ie the grey ins and thru are a different size to the blues ins and thru

what am i missing .. ?
is there like old digilink, heritage digilink and new digilink connecters ..?

who knows .?
wanna tell me ?

Rick, I'm pretty sure that you need an adaptor large to small digilink cable. Your system should work but only upto Protools 10hd. You won't be able to run 11 as the blue interfaces aren't supported.

i didn't go that route
but went very close
someone will answer with the fact that they are doing it - but i am 99.9999% sure its just a matter of a cable and you are away.
im racking my brain to when i looked at it (connecting my lynx converters with PTHD cards) but just can't remember for sure.

Can't speak about HD Native, but I can confirm that Pro Tools 10 HDX (also 64-ch of I/O) works perfectly well with early (2002 and 2005) 96I/Os.

I can't find it now, but Avid has stated in the past that legacy "blue" interfaces will not be supported. They did not say they would not work.

Andy, do you know someone for whom the legacy interfaces have not worked with PT11?

The guy who runs origami studios in Sydney. He has a thunderbolt native & it wouldn't work with a 192 & pt11. Hence I bought his 192 for my rig.

Vintage King announced that legacy blue interfaces do still work with HD11 and HDX/HD native cores?
Seems a lot of people are having success on the DUC as well?

no .
love to hear somebody say they have a new hd card plugged straight into an blue 192 interface
running 11 and it works fine
not daisy chained through a new interface

buying another protools rig just haunts me every 3 or 4 years
I cant work out if Avid are evil

the old mac trick - change the connectors to make backward compatibility difficult.

"not supported" doesn't mean "does not work"

For me, their support doesn't matter a fig - but perhaps you upmarket guys have support agreements so it may impact you.....

evil? certainly
geniuses? they employ some

you've got me started and I've said too much already X(

Guilty. I only tested it on PT10.

It works, absolutely... either that or my studio has been living in a dream for the last few years.

If it's the last few years, then that must be PT 9 or 10.

Andy Griffiths was claiming it doesn't work with PT11.

I'll be in a position to test this quite soon. I'll post back here when I can.

Yeah, that's true... I am living in a bit of a dream.

10 works fine and Avid have told me my setup should work with 11. I have 11 but haven't installed it. My main concern hasn't been the converters but rather my mac.

Sorry for the confusion. I initially thought Rick was talking about 10, and I've certainly had Avid in Australia say it should work - running an HD native card with 11 and 'blue' interfaces I mean.
