I thought you'd been around since then... it was 2 years ago.

At the time, we talked about Misner's "Neve" thing (Custom Series 75), with which you seemed quite impressed. And above a Toft, the 948 and Genesys seemed to fit. A rival school got a Genesys and we heard about problems with it.

It's turned out to be a good decision. Sounds great, is very versatile, has the best HUI implementation I've seen... a lot for bang for the buck.

How much would it cost to build some auxes, inserts and the Master/monitor section into this: http://pictures1.kyozou.com/pictures/_18/17922/17921642.jpg
http://pictures1.kyozou.com/pictures/_18/17922/17921637.jpg
And what do you think the pictured frame with PSUs would be worth? Rob Squire or anyone?
Thank you.

Why do you need auxes? I do all that sort of thing ITB. It looks like it has a monitor section though a limited one and as to inserts you could probably just use direct outs and line ins or similar.

It's just got 16 inputs, 2X2 trk ins and main+alt spkr outs at the moment. Some EDAC connections at the back, but they don't know yet what (if anything) :-s they correspond to in the current frame.

There was a soundcraft TS24 or 6000 series up at the gold coast which was around the 3k mark & there is also a soundcraft sapphyre 36ch in Perth for 1k. Both these console were worth 30-40k when new. Something like this would be up your alley given your budget you could get a few mods done & they would be sounding great

direct outs would be easy to add to this as almost all api modules would have transformer outs that you could tap, line ins might need a bit more thinking and you would definitely want a schematic and without one it would be pretty hard to determine whether you would want it. What is the price they are chasing?

I think if you're going to use a console auxes (and groups) are really useful - otherwise you've got an expensive summing mixer.

How about a beautiful Trident 65 16x16.
Rebuilt by SSL 2 owners since new.
Has everything you're looking for and the 16 group meter bridge WOW factor.
You can also taste the Oak when you lick it!

Cheers

ps I researched Cadac for about 6 months and came to the same conclusion as most.
No mix bus as such, so no master section.
Great for tracking, grouping, auxes galore and VCA mute groups, great for live theatre but not for music mixing.
Hummungous redundant loud power supplies that would send you're power bill skyrocketing.

Lots of functions I didn't need and did I mention HOT!
Sound, eq, routing, metering great but in the end just too difficult.

Do your research on Trident. A lot of people say there are Trident consoles….. and there are Trident consoles.

I got that Sapphyre, you told me about. Heaps of work to be done on it, but I've started already. Pretty flexible desk, but a bit weird at the same time. Should be good once used to it.

P.S> I think it was gigpiglet that asked " why not soundcraft" and he was right. :D
Plenty of potential in this one. Thanks!

Well, I don't blame him. THis thing certainly has some punch. I've dug into some things that need attention already, and will probably doing the master section mod that Andy has had some luck with.
All the VCA taper faders need replacing and I've already tried the K type alps (10k) and they work. 24 more faders, master fader and 30 switches (mainly the EQ "in" that I'll be doing for now) are on their way to me from UK.
Also, if anyone is looking at a cheap desoldering station that works well, I just got a Rhino tools one off Ebay. Great help to me as I was pretty hopeless with an iron and a suction pump.

Thank you guys!
Once the faders and switches arrive (they've been TNT-ed from UK 2 days ago, so hopefully early next week) I should have them replaced in 2 days. After that I'll probably do the master section mod, which I'll have to get done by a tech, so depends on them how long it will take. I hope to have her sounding clean as a whistle in about 2 months :)
