I think they accidentally put a space in the title and it's supposed to read "Art is worthless in the age of Spotify"

well "spotted" Andy.
The name still reminds me of a stain removing product, although in this case, it makes the stains...

Interesting also is the pursuit of radio stations by PPCA for royalties per stream for simulcast of the already broadcast program (Which we all pay APRA fees on)
We have to log electronically everything we play and be able to produce logs of all streaming systems to identify every possible stream on a second by second basis so they can cross reference each stream statistic to our audit logs and work out what to charge us. And we're only a talk station, but still have to do it in case we play 1 song every 6 hours. The compliance costs for the software to do this are way in excess of what we will actually pay for the few songs we do play (we're talking 10s of thousands of dollars to do this properly) This is why pretty well every country / regional station has stopped streaming as it is totally unaffordable to comply when They're already paying the APRA fees for what they broadcast.
It wouldn't be so bad if the Artist actually saw any money, but I doubt much will actually get to them.
Personally I am not a fan of streaming or downloading. It just doesn't sound as good to my old ears . I buy CDs, SACDs, DVD-A and Vinyl and even Tape .
Downloading and streaming has really damaged what was once a great Industry. It really is sad.
That's my personal opinion for what it's worth.

I follow the sentiments above.

But here we have an article claiming that Spot-a-lie is contributing to the "growth" of the Australian music market.
Well maybe more people listening to free/cheap streamed music...but proper record sales?? Hmm I doubt it...

Wow, those links are depressing ...
..so -> recording and releasing an album seems to be now just a digital pamphlet /advertisement to get noticed, to pull punters to a show.
Music's value is nothing to the majority of people. Same with film.
I have noticed people only wanting to hear a track on youtube - if there is no youtube track - they don't bother looking again.
Ergghhh.....

Re: Art is worth less in the age of Spotify
Funding recordings from touring is a backwards step.
Many album projects I love (as a consumer) would be too expensive to tour (large, unusual ensembles), too niche to fund from touring (some contemporary jazz) and too boring live compared to studio (much electronic music).
Spotify is a win for consumers, but a loss for health and diversity and therefore a long term lose for consumers.
