To carpet or not...........?

Postby andre99 » Wed Feb 04, 2015 11:16 am

Hi folks, I'm currently converting a room in my house to a studio and was hoping to get some experienced opinions on whether I should carpet the floor or have wooden floor boards (with maybe a rug). Or, whether it really doesn't make that much difference.

The room is 3.7 by 4.2 and will be used for acoustic instrument recordings - upright piano, acoustic guitar, electric and drums will all be squeezed in. I'm also going to give it some decent acoustic treatment.

I don't remember being in studios with carpeted floors but it's been a long time.

Thanks in advance.

Floor boards and rugs would be my preference.

even just from a taking care of/ keeping clean etc perspective
floorboards and rug is way easier
and it gives you the option of pulling up the rug and having a wood floor

Wood and rugs are easier to clean, and in my opinion, look better

As others above state -) Timber floor and rugs to control ambiance.
Wall to wall carpet floors really sound horrible for acoustic instruments.
For eg: try a cello on a carpet floor - yuk! , strings, acoustic guitar, mandolin, banjo, drums, .. you name it..
