OK this is more from the deseased estate forum member pile of stuff i have to sell
its a totally unused raindirk tracking rack , our man saw an article on the preamps racks that trackdown here in sydney had built by raindirk
and for reasons known only to him he paid $26,000 to have this rack custom made by raindirk for him !!
(edit -- this rack has been spotted by senad on the raindirk site at a speculative 6100 poundsplus 20%vat pounds see below )
you know what .. I am sure it is friggin amazing it certainly is built like a tank and bound to sound incredable but really $26k ..?
I have been preparing his widow for the loss . she says ok its time .
anyway its unused I am pricing it at what I think is good price for a believable sale for this
so its $6000 aud .. thats $400 a module .
Its racked perfectly and will serve well somebody as an incredable tracking thing
this is the only mic pre amps trackdown use in the big room use .. its a bit of an oddball in my world
but i have made quite a few records on raindirks over the years .. great consoles .

Re: Raindirk 16 channel tracking rack
basic review for the curious !
I see the value in this thing being 16 channels , so if you want to record no fuss and impeccability here you go
I dont see this thing being resold anywhere near its purchase price though
I think I have the price just right to sell to somebody that just wants get down to work recording stuff.
well to somebody on the forum anyway .. if it ends up on world wide ebay I will be starting it much higher .

Hmmm..yeah, really strange. Especially, because they are readily available for the rrp of GBP 6k from the manufacturer and don't seem to be a custom order or anything like that.
Anyway, they should be pretty sweet sounding, though...

Re: Raindirk 16 channel tracking rack
yes i have just seen that on their site thanks senad
raindirk and thermonic are just not my thing
so i can only go on what i guesstemated a fair quick sale price would be .
when she spoke with them a few months back they said "oh it was a small order we did custom we dont have any more and were unlikely to ever do any more " ..
but they would buy hers back at some lowball price and "recondition it " and resell it as new ( cheeky buggers )
but still 6100 pounds is $11000ish in our pretty coloured money so thats what its worth new today it seems
( if they built one or got this one back ) and this one IS unused
our man paid .. retail plus plus it seems ! and way too much for everything as far as i can tell.
if anybody gets serious about buying it or any of the gear i put up in his lot and wants to wrestle the price down a bit its probably ok , but i urge you all to think what if this was your widow selling gear you bought and then left this mortal coil with kids and an unfinished studio ... ( etc etc) you get my drift its all going prety cheap as is .
doesnt need to be said but there nothing in this for me its just a estate sale for her.
somebody who wants a no fuss tracking machine will figure this thing out as perfect .

Re: Raindirk 16 channel tracking rack
well 6000 squid is still 12000AU$
plus some GST
import duty
freight (dont forget freight - heavy things, unacompanied on aeroplanes, cost lots!)
and some customs paperwork for the import ($400 starting point)
you could very easily be at 16k if not more.
so half price (for mint condition "second hand" could be 8k really?
like you say though - im sure it sounds pretty sweet!

Re: Raindirk 16 channel tracking rack
Yep, great rack right there. I was just referring to 12k vs 26k, no devaluation intended at all.
I've been onto this rack since last year, when it came up for sale first by their friend, but just haven't been able to come up with enough coin.
Have spoken to the lovely lady about it a couple months ago, too...
I was planning on getting an SSL/Raindirk hybrid console happening.. (x-desk, x-panda + this)
We all know how hard it is to sell gear lately... and you always need to sell something to buy another thing and so it goes in circles...

Re: Raindirk 16 channel tracking rack
well its the right thing for somebody that much is sure , the price is right for 16 chns of away you go recording studio
but its still a lot of coin to find .. I think we all understand that part .
why he paid so much is still beyond me but I guess it depends where the dollar was at the time , wether he paid the 20% vat in england without being able or bother to claim it back AND the 10% gst here plus the freight and wtf raindirk charged him in the first place .. never the less I reckon my price IS on the money
His widow understands and just wants it gone to a good home so here we are
SO ..?
whos up

nice rack. I looked into one of these before I bought my Calrec.
Do these have the compressors in every channel?

I took a closer look at the front panel in the photo. it looks as if the EQ takes about 80% of the strip!

Re: Raindirk 16 channel tracking rack
Thanks for looking after this deal Rick.
Christine was very nice and had dinner ready for me when I arrived!
Very sad story so I'll fill in the details to clear the story and conjecture around Cyril Jones's invoicing.
Basically the guy loves music and production, he's got a stack of AT mags in his control room, lives his life never really following his dream, or left it too late.
In the last stage he builds a studio in Nimbin, starts buying very expensive gear and gets sick.
After many late night conversations with Cyril Jones he's buying a refurbed console, $26K (the first receipt) to put in the studio.
Money runs short so he can't complete paying for the console but Cyril provides the Rack instead, the second reciept. $10K.
The Rain dirk sat on the meter bridge of his Ta@#$% console for a year never plugged in!
He gets sick, very sick and finally dies at home in his wife of 21 years arms!
The Raindirk had only ever had one microphone signal passed through it once!
There's a nice pair of Quested monitors $6K new left over.
There's nothing else of value left and the studio glass was never fitted!
I promised Christine the rack will be used for many really good recordings and I'll send her a copy.
A widow with 4 cute children who will keep his microphone and bass guitar forever!
I don't think anything was ever made there.
Cheers
