Electronic Drum Hire.

Anyone lurking know where one can rent an electronic drum kit? Roland TD range or similar?
Looking to record an upcoming project with DFH.

you could ask at Billy Hydes, but be prepared for your conversation to go like this....

BH: "yeah, we have one kit."

ME: "ok can I hire it?"

BH: "It's in Melbourne."

ME: "Well can you freight it up to Sydney so I can hire it?"

BH: "Dunno. It'll be pretty expensive."

ME: "Like how much? A hundred? Two?"

BH: "Yeah. About that."

ME: "Ok. I'm happy to pay for freight. Can you get the kit to Sydney?"

BH: "Yeah, it's a bit hard. You might be better off seeing if any drummers you know have one, ay."

ME: "rrrrrriiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight."

yeah, i havent called BH....for the reason i had the exact same convo...regarding bass rig borrowals...

i think it was u kris that put me onto ur mate Gary....i was bending over backwards with BH trying to rent an Ampeg Classic....called up gary...

"umm, yep...ampeg classic? yepp...sweet..whenever u want it should be fine....we have 5....

but yeah....seriously...anyone that knows were i can rent a good one.. please, do help :P

When do you need it and how long do you need it for? I have a TD12 and whilst I have never hired it out before I may consider it if the timing suits my schedule. How much will you pay?

Haaaa.....been meaning to comment on that column. A good one for sure. I sometimes think about renting the odd piece out as I have some nice pieces (2254's, Federals, Pultec, V72's etc) but the thing that alway stops me is the idea of a stranger doing terrible things to them, or worse, breaking something. Not to mention some of my older stuff doesn't like to move around very much. It was good to read Rick's advice as it confirmed my suspicions that deep down I couldn't really handle hiring my gear out. Emotionally that is.....Similar to my missus...only to real close friends as long as I can borrow theirs in return.
Coincidentally we rented a place down Phillip Island last weekend and Rick's words about the woman he hired from were ringing in my ears as we were leaving. I almost took photos as insurance against a nutty owner. Although in this case their cd's were a mess and I was the one who alphabetized them.

Didn't mean to put you off hiring to Jay. I was talking about total strangers. I'm sure people here can vouch for him. I would consider hiring to a Turtlerocker that was near me, just not any of the great unwashed that don't post here.

That's ok. If you guys vouch then I'm sure it's fine. I too am very protective about my stuff. Generally only lend stuff to close friends that I know will take care of it. I've never hired out before.

If Jamil contacts me then I'll work something out with him.

I know its now a done deal, but I've lent a few of my mics to Jamil over the past 4 weeks to try with different vocals, he's always handled them with the same love and care that I do, and he's absolutely kept his word about returning them on time. He knows and respects the gear. I'd lend to him again without hesitation.

i actually do agree....BFD is bigger..f*cking...drummier....

DFH is a little on the clinical (this is what the drums sound like) side.

but alas...i got it aaaaages ago....and only use it in life saving situations...:P

Jamil, let us know how it goes. I'm thinking about buying a Hart Dynamics kit along with BFD 2.0. Bigger outlay up front but may save me thousands long term in studio hire.

ive used DFH + VDrums in the past. Fantastic...

saves the engineer (me's) ass, when the drummer has a shit kit.....any performance can be edited pre rendering into "virtual miced tracks" which makes the audio alot more...open and sweet sounding...coz it hasnt been crossfaded to death....i could go on....u get the picture :P
