Aladdin's Cave of Gear in Bellingen?
Just wondering if anybody knows anything about all the gear that's popped up recently on oz ebay out of Bellingen NSW ( 2-inch 24 track-multitracks etc)? Link to one of the items, for example, is below:
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/M-C-I-JH-24-2-in ... dZViewItem
The seller (who may be legit, don't know, but she doesn't respond to any messages) has zero feedback (as if that weren't enough of a warning), everything is available for pick up though (if it exists). Just curious if anyone had any background...... my spider sense says to back away, back away, and then back away some more. Doesn't seemed to have worried about 17 bidders though, so maybe they know something I don't, or are just stupider than I usually am.

Thanks Nymo! My guess is it's coming out of an ex-film production set up or similar (know a lot of those folks have roots down around Bellingen), the Sound Workshops console has supposedly been used for a number of classic oz films. I think the cost of tape alone is enough to keep me away from the big multitracks..

I saw that one but was a little suss on the description as an 'unfinished restoration'. Like.."yeah we almost finished her up,, just haven't put a motor in it" sort of thing. It doesn't specify but it's damn cheap at the moment. I want that BX20 spring they are selling, but I can't pick it up. I hope that's you with the bid on it Nymo. One of us here should at least get it.

If it was the MCI I was after I'd seriously think about hiring a van and going a getting it. You'd need one with a hydraulic tailgate but it wouldn't cost much. Still it depends on what restoration needs to still be done, head condition etc. We had MCI's and they are a good workhorse. Just the ugliest multitrack ever made. I believe the fake timber look is called "Burmese River Teak".

Hi there,
I've asked them for info on the condition of the MCI but as yet they haven't got back to me.
(There you go Norm !)
They did get back to me about some of the other stuff though.
As usual, the Ebay ghouls will drive the prices up to ridiculous amounts 5 seconds before the end !
cheers
