Anyone off to Apogee/Logic/Euphonix demo Syd Tues?

Postby SteveL » Mon Apr 07, 2008 4:40 pm

Hi - just curious if anyone else was going to the Logic/Apogee/Euphonix demo night Tues night at the Institute of Music, Surry Hills (I think it's also on down in Melb later this month). I've got Logic and the baby Apogee - Duet - but interested in hearing the Ensemble and seeing the Euphonix controller (I use an MCU with Logic). Some good pubs nearby too!

The new euphonics controll surface looks very neat. Haven't found any details of a Melb session but would be interested in any details.

Hi there,

There's one on Ebay for Sydney pickup for $900...looks legit as far as I know.

Apparently there are a lot of dropouts with PT ?

I'm sure you'd set us straight Kris ??

No problems running latest drivers with Pro Tools LE7.4.

We have only 12 or so tracks as well as a video track but it's been pretty smooth.

What's on ebay?

I really want to go, but I have a session on and don't think I'll be finished in time, goddamnit.

I just bought a Symphony mobile system (Rosetta, AD16X, DA16X, symphony PCMCIA card, new macbook pro etc) and to be honest I'm less than flattered with the implementation. Logic is running slowly, I can't configure the IO labels properly and the manual makes me feel a bit retarded (as I just don't get some parts) like v-bus, etc etc.

I was using a firewire card in the AD16X's before and that worked OK, although you could measure the latency with a sundial. So I had a very complicated system in place for record monitoring (which even I struggled to understand sometimes).

So if anyone does go, I'd love to hear how they explain the symphony system. It sure looks great on paper...

It's being put on by Sound Device in Sydney, not Apple, so not going to Melb. as far as I know.
I'm sure that your local could give you a pretty comprehensive demonstration though.

For those who want the details, info is here...

Logic is running slowly

You running 10.5.2?

Not speaking on behalf of any company here, but 10.5.2 has been a little, shall we say "flakey" on the Audio side of things.
Generally though, the issue has been with the speed of loading core-audio dependant programs, and not with the actual performance once running.

Hopefully 10.5.3 - Due imminently - will address things. I'll be running it as soon as launched - I've got
a pretty compressive backup system so I can revert back if it sucks, and I can let you know how it goes.
PM me and I'll tell you.

I'm still on 10.4.11

Leopard can wait at least a year. Stuffed if I'm going to be Apple's beta tester.

They had a rep from SSL UK, as well as the local Amber guy. The SD staff got taken through the console just
before the public.

As with anything, there is no substitute for hands on experience.

Kris..its the MC Mix (same as yours I think?)
It might have gone now. He had it for $1000 BIN (no sale) then it went to $900 BIN and he said he wouldn't advertise it again.
I was thinking of buying it until I saw all the negative things at GS !

ok...

went looking but could not find it. must have sold.

I have the MC Mix running tools and Final Cut Pro and have had no problems with it at all. Even tweaking plugins with it is cool once you understand what does what. It's new so it's going to have some bugs. A lot of the problems reported on GS are "finger problems" ie user error. I'm prepared to see it through on this one though, because the long term with EuCon, Logic and Apogee looks very good.

MC Control was due in March.... waiting to hear when it's available.

as an aside, the Euphonix stuff does look very cool, way cooler than the Mackie.
