Old 824s vs New 824s

Postby Sheer Noise » Thu May 22, 2008 8:58 am

Hi,

Has anyone gone from using Mackie 824s to 824MkIIs? I'm just interested in any opinions on the difference. I read the AT article that mentioned a better top-end, but is that it? I have been offered a really good deal on a 2nd hand pair of the originals that I know the history of and have used before, and I wouldn't mind saving some money for other things...

Dave.

Dunno about the new ones but I've read a few things Rick has said about the older ones and he seems to rate them as quite good monitors, probably worth grabbing if it's a real bargain.

I never liked them in the few times I've listened on them, but I hav'nt spent enough time mixing with them to give a real opinion on them.

Yeah, like I've said before... I'm into the 824's cause they're about the easiest monitors (to me at least) to listen to ALL DAY. I'm not really mixing at all these days, just composing and editing, so I really don't need anything more than the 824s provide. I've used the pair on offer a number of times and they've just really suited what I'm doing. The old KEF bookshelfs have been my all-day speakers cause my NS10s were just too fatiguing... now I've sold the NS10s I figure I can reduce some clutter and get rid of the KEFs as well, if I get some 824s.
