SM7B - Paid for One, Got Two

So I order a Shure SM7B from OS a few weeks back (US Ebay store seller), and the mic arrives safe and sound within a week (UPS with tracking). Just get a call from the missus at home to say UPS have just delivered another package looks similarly like the last one. I get her to check the package and s(h)ure enough, it is ANOTHER sm7b from the same seller. The shipment and tracking numbers are EXACTLY identical to the package shipped earlier. I checked, and I definitely only paid and was charged for one (via Paypal transaction).

I'm not into thievery, and the unopened mic has been put aside till I get back home to deal with it . It has cost the seller about AUS $40 to ship the mic (one way) so figure another $40 to get it back - total $80 just in shipping for them to get the mic back. I think I will contact the seller, explain the unexpected arrival (both deliveries had to be signed for) and offer to 'adopt' the orphan mic for, say $300, then sell it here on eBay (rarely see sm7b's get offered) and hope to make a bit of a profit to offset the original purchase.

It could also be interesting to see how long it takes them to figure out why they're missing a sm7b!

What would you turtlerocker's do?

Offer the mic for sale to firstly turtlerockers at the invoice price then send the money to the supplier when sold.
Seems like a nice option.

The 2nd mic was actually never invoiced at all - so it has turned up free of charge. However the first mic cost me US $388 with shipping and insurance (AUS$405). The mic component was US$350. I have seen some US sellers sell them new for US$290-300 but charge up to $140 for shipping. I have a PM already from a forum member for the mic, so hopefully once I get it sorted with the seller it will find its way to a turtlerocker for a very good price!

Is it possible that he sold a second mic but shipped to yourself again by misstake.

If so someone is missing a mic they purchased on ebay and he /she will eventualy work out what happend.

I would check to see if that is the case and if so ask for the shipping costs from the seller and post to the person who brought it.

No...seriously, I would contact the seller and let them know and leave it up to them. If they want it back they should pay shipping. I wouldn;t ship it to any other purchaser, only back to the seller, otherwise if it gets stolen in the mail on it's way to the other purchaser (if there is one) you will get the blame....

Good points Chinagraf - my plan is to contact the ebay store, advise them of the error, offer to buy the mic off them for a discounted price, then pass on the savings and the mic to a turtlerocker. They may, of course, just tell me to ship the mic back to them (at their cost) although I think this is unlikely given it would have to go back to New York.....

Well, good karma will be repaid 10 times over they say. I got it sorted with the US store overnight (they were blissfully unaware of the shipping error) and rather than return the mic they offered to let me keep the 2nd SM7b for $250. I couldn't pay them quick enough!! Now that I'm feeling comfortable as the legal owner of the mic, I will sell it - one is enough for my needs.

I've had a number of people contact me to express interest. Don't know what's fairest - maybe I should just run an open auction on the forum for T-Rockers only over a couple of days, start it at what I paid and highest bidder gets it?

Although I am going to be out of town and probably out of contact until the end of the weekend from tonight, so if I'm hard to get hold of please just bear with me until Monday!

I could find something I dont use and stick it on with no reserve and see how we go.
Maybe we should run a no reserve auction for all our excess studio gear. How about it boys??

Well, auctioning off to the highest bidder I'd say would not be good karma.
Whoever was the first to contact you about it should be offered up first - that is the only fairest way to do it I think.
If they dont need it, go to the next person who messaged you about it.
Otherwise, you are gaining from the shops misfortune.. and the highest bidder is not getting a good deal..
Will be interesting to see how this pans out..

Ok guys, hear what you're saying.....auction is bad karma. BTW the $250 ($US) was what the seller said they'd sell me the mic for, (you'll see in my first post I was thinking of offering them $300. I paid $350 for the other) so any misfortune incurred by the store was not the result of me squeezing them! It's probably close to cost for them I guess....

Anyway, I've just PM'd the first forum member who got in touch with me to buy the mic. I'm off now for a loooong weekend in the country!
