AWA BIG 1 SALE

Postby 13thbeach » Sun Jul 13, 2008 12:51 pm

Hi all,

I'm selling x2 AWA big 1 limiters. They are x2 units housed in one chassis. Currently with Rob Squire as he will need to hook them up. He
adds attack, release, stereo link, bypass controls as well as moving the power switch to the front and XLR I/O's and power to the back.
I can supply pics of x2 he has already done for me. Great units for a lot of different applications. SOLD

Thanks,
Mat.

FWIW these units were originally broadcast hammer-style compressors, but they are now in great favour (modified as Rob has done) as vintage compressors - I think Casey Chambers records through these at brother Troy's place. I understand they are more on the coloured side than transparent, but heaps of character.

No, I am NOT 13th Beach's cousin.

From what I have been told, Casey Chambers used the old G58 Valve limiters on her vocals/ records.

Oh and they have sold (record time i think)

You can both be my bitches, but you gotta work for it.

Happy Days.

Well when the deal is actually confirmed, I'm sure the new owner will be happy to talk about the new purchase.

Until then, you can still grab some ribbon mics and Harrison strips, and patchbays from me...plug plug.

now, where are those bitches of mine.

Hi Nic,

Well it's hard to say as I have not experienced too many different boards. I can say that the mic pre has a lot of headroom and I
find kick and snare a treat through them. The EQ seems very musical and coloured yet it really moves (unlike an Avalon 737 say),
its got a sound. They seem to have this nice mid range snap to them. I really like the filters though. Used subtly or aggressively
they just sound good to me. From what I have read and been told, they would be comparable to an MCI style sound.
If anyone out there has experienced both, please tell us your thoughts.

Oh! one last thing, the Harrison 3232 was the same board that was used to record Micheal Jackson's Thriller Album.
It's confirmed on GS.

Cheers,
Mat.

My experience is with an M3.They are a great sounding board in a neutral wayand very quiet when gained right up . The Harrison eq is not aggressive in the way that for example soundcraft is . It took me a while to get used to it when i first started to mix on a Harrison. The real strength is the high and low pass filtering and subtractive eq to fix a problem frequency. In a funny way you don't hear the eq doing much until you sweep to the problem area then wind it back.

Cheers Tim,

I think they are great limiters, right up there with anything from Urei etc...
They are around, just gotta dig.

I just got some Auditronics 501 strips but I have got way too many projects on the go so I'm sure I'll get to hear them in a few years from now. hehe.

Nah, I found an ad in some US online trading post. The guy just wanted to move it and even suggested that it could be parted out etc...
I originally wanted to keep it and "fix it up" but in the end it was going to cost too much to ship it with the frame, and i can only imagine
how much it would have cost to get going. I think I made the right choice. I've managed to finance part of my studio set up with it,
as well as network my ass off and meet studio owners because of it.
I've actually just counted how many strips I have left, and I just realised I only have enough to make two or three more units tops.

Cheers,
Mat.

Matt,
I bought them from Rob at Broadcast/Proharmonic.
They are the Auditronics 110A.
He racked them and as far as I know, still has a couple left.
They are sweet pres with nice inductor based EQ's.
I took them to a gear day at nIC's (Aearth) in Jan and they came up as a well liked pre against Quad 8's, Mercury and a variety of other pres that were there on the day.
For the price, they are awesome..

Yeah I'm looking forward to racking mine up. mine have the 4 band eq. Your right, for the price they kick ass, and are what Quad Eight was about 7 or 8 years ago, a great cheaper alternative to whats typically good but expensive.

Tim, if you want a set of Harry's, I'd be happy to hold 2 strips for you. Just let me know.

Matt,
r.e Harrisons - I'd love too, but I'm really gassing for some nice 500 series EQ modules at the moment - as well as other stuff I cant afford right now!!
Just landed a Palmer PDI-03 and a new Digi PT keyboard (got them off Gearslutz).
Hoping that they will arrive today..
