Several comments... This seller has a very high rating and I believe that I have noted previous items of his for sale. So, all ridgy-didge there.

However... the description in the item heading is odd: "Valve tube microphone guitar preamp pre amplifier kit". Tautological and confusing. Nowhere does he say what the valve is. From the description that he gives in the body of the listing, this baby won't be any use as a mic preamp, not with a 1Meg input impedance. You should also note the output impedance is pretty high.

This kit is for a guitar preamp. I note that the kit doesn't appear to include a case, so you need to think about a satisfactory housing to accommodate the two different battery types together with some way of protecting the valve.

For $16 all up, what have you got to lose? Might be some fun. But I wonder why he didn't just flog off the valves on eBay, if they were any good...

just the valve in that pic (About the size of a large pill) confused me.. I never knew such a thing existed.

I've never seen one like that.. I also thought that generally, exluding the filament, valves had to run of quite a large voltage, say 100V (between the plates ?) but then again, I'm not that cluey on valves.

Could make a good built-in overdrive for a synth or drum machine, or the basis for a pedal.

Many years ago people used to sell pet rocks, basically round smooth rocks with faces painted on them. This probably is the electronic version of the pet rock but more ugly.

Maybe it is that pet rock, but over time its worn down so much that its turned to glass.......and small bits of metal appeared within it to emulate the face that once was.

Same valve as the Oatley kit, simpler circuit. I think Jaycar sell the same kit as Oatley but with a case.

I bought one for shits and giggles but am not as bright as a 10 year old.
I guess oatley would provide basic instructions, Jaycar probably have step by step instructions, ebay guy gives a schematic.
