Good story in Saturdays SMH with Rick and Turtlerock's restoration of original Johnny O'Keefe masters. Talk about a labour of love both for mastering engineer and record company.

What a massive job by the sound of it, I'm very interested in having a listen to the CD or DVD, my next door neighbor told me a bit about what Rick said at the unveiling as he did the AV for the presentation at TurtleRock, lucky bugger got to hear one of the original tapes.

Well done Rick, very important job for Australian archival purposes as well to get back to the source and reveal how it really was meant to sound.

the only thing is i wish that stuff sounded great - it doesnt :(

it sounds better then it ever has ...but thats long way from great

but hey we are talking late fifities early sixties most of us werent even born then

and for those that were....
hell go buy the cd went it comes out you will love it

thats not actually the smh one but there are all much the same
we had a bunch of press in from each state
gave them all the same facts at the same time - none of them seem to get the story right ,
but hell
its a newspaper what do you expect ..news - truth ?

only in The Truth newspaper, Rick - assuming you can be bothered reading past page 3, of course.

Looking at the pic in the article, and not knowing what an Ampex 351 looks like - Rick, I hope you did the traditional thing and made sure that any gear in the photo had nothing whatsoever to do with the work :)
