Pre Amp Advice New or old?

HI

In the market for another Pre amp I currently own the Great River ME-1NV and am most happy with it but I want one with a EQ section similar to a 1073.

I talked to Craig from front end audio today and he told about a pair of Caltrecs that are coming up plus there is a pair of Harrison's there as well.

The other one that I'm looking at is a Vintech X73.

I'm not looking for a tube sound.

Any advice received with much thanks.

Mat Robins (13thbeach) is selling a pair of Harrisons - racked by Rob @ Proharmonic..
Now THEY would be a sweet pair to get..
I looked at them before I got my Auditronics 110A's from Rob..
They are also excellent micpres to check out..
They pulled up very well against a pair of Quad8 MM403s that we tried at Aearths studio in January..
Might be worth investigating..

In your opinion would they be along the lines of the Neve's.

Probably not Neve but more API sounding.

might give you a little more info..
these are 110B's, not the 110A that I have, but they have a lovely EQ section.
Rob might kick in here too - he racked them up actually as well..

Just found this snippet of info as well, as there are several Auditronics micpre/EQ modules..

There are actually five versions (at least that I know of) - the ones you mentioned plus the first modules which had no letter codes. here are some of the differences as far as I have gathered from research and the ones I own:

110 (no letter code):
-yellow unmarked transformers
-inductor e.q.
-lm301 and lm709 opamps
-continuously variable gain
110a:
-jenson transformers
-inductor e.q.
-lm301 and lm709 opamps
-stepped gain in 5db increments
110b:
-jenson transformers
-inductor e.q.
-lm301 and lm709 opamps OR NE5534 opamps (they changed over sometime during this period)
-stepped gain in 5db increments
(the following ones i know less about)
110c:
-no transformer
-no inductor e.q.
-probably NE5534 opamps
110d:
-transformer(dont know what brand)
-no inductor e.q.
-probably NE5534 opamps

they all also used slightly different circuits with the 110a and 110b being the closest as far as I can tell

i have been using the X81 vintech, and love it. i tried the 73 and great river. baught the 81.

I could do you a set of Harrison's although I'm running out. At last count I only have enough for another
two units. Your welcome to email me direct or even hassle Rob Squire for more info. There are also more detailed

Tim thanks for the plug. Also the Auditronics strips are great value/quality. You could not go wrong there.
Don't forget the 501 series also. 4 band inductor eq, Jensen transformers.

No worries Mat - I remembered you had some FS.
My Auditronics 110As are lovely - Jensen T's, inductor EQ's - sweet..
Continuous variable gain would be really nice, but the 5dB increments are fine...
I didnt realize how many different Auditronics modules there were - heaps!!

erm...Chandler LTD1?? i know Nic (Aearth) has one...and loves it.

its got more EQ points than a 1073 too...

and is pretty much a 1073 clone.....

Without knowing your budget, The Brent Averill 1073 is pretty much bang on clone.

How do they do this without getting flack about copying a circuit ? On the contrary they recieve a pat on the back - hmm ??
