Wow I finally have paid off my laybe and received the unit this morning.
The purpose of this thread is to lead people here who are looking to finding out some users impressions of this model Daking FET II compressor.
I am hoping to add some more comments as I get used to this compressor but I only received it today and have put it through a very quick test.
Initial impressions was that it is quite well made with Jensen JT -11 -1 HPC input and Jensen 123-SLPC output transformers which sublty effect the sound.
The feel of the detented or clicking knobs is great. It feels reassuring that this unit will last for many years.Wish there was an on and off switch to the unit
I plugged it through a Speck MP5 preamp with a 50hz cut going through the direct out signal output on the unit into the Daking. I just grabbed a RODE NT1000mic and did a quick sing. When the unit is engaged it certainly changed the sound the a dramatic nice way. It was on the 1.5:1 ratio 2ms attack and 33609 auto release preset with just 2db of threshold and the VU hitting 1-4db of GR. The unit certainly took some of the high brittle sound of the NT1000 and some of its clarity away but imparted a very nice thickening sound to the vocal.
I was very impressed at this initial test by just using a little bit of compression. I guess using a little can actually go a long way.
This is going to be a nifty device and I look forward to other peoples impressions of this unit.
