Ebay/paypal disputes

Hey so who's been ripped off on ebay recently. I think I have been, I was getting worried that the state of the world economy would lead to more rippoffs. Anyway I filed a dispute with paypal about the unit not turning up after 1 month.

I ordered some gear from Germany last Tuesday and it was here on Monday morning with no problems, usually the European post is heaps slower than USPS.

The seller had 100% positive feedback and 1700 ebay happy points, seller is located in California.

Who has received a full refund after being ripped off, just interested? Does it usually work out with paypal buyer protection?

Anyway it was only $400 but still a PITA to have to deal with.

If i recall correctly, a mate of mine recieved a 75% refund from paypal on a item that never showed.

I've been pretty fortunate with ebay sales to date. I've purchased a few 'big ticket' items and have not had any trouble. This one time at band camp... (no, not really) I purchased some stuff from an older couple who ran an auction house in their town. I paid for it immediately and was promised shipment right away. Three months and many, many emails later I still had nothing and by this time it was past ebay's time cut off for filing a dispute. It was easy enough to find his company address and name etc by the info in his emails and ebay profile so I rang the Sheriff in the guys town. I ring up, tell him the problem, that I've paid and have proof etc and he says "Gee, that doesn't sound like Bob.... let me look into it for you.' Two days later I get an apologetic email from the ebay seller and 1 week later the stuff is at my door.

i got a 100% refund a while back when nothing showed... took a few weeks for paypal to go thru their procedure but nothing painful.

Hey Kris, well done that was a great way to get things moving.

Cheers too Anton that makes me feel a bit better. Anyway he got back to me straight away this time after filing the complaint and gave me some wacky story about customs documents and insuring it for full value. It's way under the $1000 dollar limit for gst so I told him to just send the thing, IMMEDIATELY!

Still sounds fishy to me but hopefully the unit is here in a week and all will be cool.

Heath, I've bought stacks of rack gear over the yrs from Ebay and (knock on wood) I've never had any problems.
One guy refused to ship an item to me because I was in Australia, yet he had offered worldwide shipping.
I hadnt made payment yet as I was waiting on a shipping quote from him so I just let it go - never lost any cash on the deal, but it was very frustrating - Ebay didnt really do anything at the time either (this was back in 2004)

Yes I have had the occasion to use Paypal and ebay and most of the time I got a refund only twice did I not get a refund on faulty goods and goods that did not arrive. I had to bear the cost. It seems to be part of the risk of buying on ebay.
It does not seems to be getting any better but I also dont think it is getting any worse.
Anyone want a V-amp that does not work (apparently in mint condition)?

Paypal generally seem to side with the buyer.. Thats my experiencce anyway.

Soon as you generally lodge a complaint with paypal, the money is seized from the seller, and held until the dispute is over. As a seller, this can be fustrating (Especially if the buy is an idiot, which happened to me.. complete fu%$er) and as a buyer, this can be good because you are basically holding the seller to randsom until the dispute is fixed.

For all it's PITA's, Paypal is quite the secure way to do a transaction if you are buying.. but the double fees with ebay & paypal SUCK if you are selling.
