Just as an aside , the C12 copy looks identical to the ACM 1200 in the group buy.

It is a standard Chinese Mic but if you saw turn it around to the other side you would see the New JLM PCB fitted which switches the mic over to a C12 circuit when phantom power is switched on. Most chinese mics come wired as a Soundlux circuit which uses the second half of the tube as a buffer and makes the mic bright and harsh. We also fix several other simple problems to make the mic smooth and fat but removing phantom power switches the mic back to the brighter sound when needed.

Thanks for that explanation Joe. Looks like an interesting mod. I'm not douting it would bring an improvement. One question though, with phantom switched on does the mic still respond to the pole pattern switch on the power supply?
As there are many different mic manufacturers in china, some better than others, i just found it interesting that this mic and the ACM 1200 look like they came from the same factory, as they look identical down to the case and accessories. Also i know one of the Chinese manufacturers that has been established for a long time was set up during the cold war years with the help of Geffel of East Germany so i presume the mics from that factory may well benefit from this association.

Actually it is also the same body as the Peluso - most of the Chinese made C12 copies have this exact same body.

Of course it won't have Joe's touch of magic - lol :)

What Peluso model as the one on their site ( the P12 ) is different in the shape of the grill and the position of the HPF and pad.

Wonder if it's worth getting Joe to have a look at the 1200 and see if he can make things better..

As Joe is not doing his mod to the 1200 type mic, i have listed the mods available from Oliver and Terry through the GB in the "sleeping giant awoken" thread.
