Contemplating selling this as I dont use it a lot.
Serviced and Calibrated by Joe Malone in BRisbane.
I am in 2 minds about selling it.
Currently I have been hiring it out to people that I know and trust so it is paying its way but I would be interested in entertaining offers from anyone interested.
Thanks

+1 for keeping it if it's paying it's way. Not gonna be too many people round at the moment willing (or in a position) to offer you what it's worth.

Im curious what its worth? All this talk just pumps up the price?
Fair enough if people are bidding on it and willing to pay for it at a certain price therefore justifies the whatever value of it but all this talk about it makes it sound like a marketting scam to bump up the price and get people to pay a higher price.

Blackface Revision F - lowest I've seen go in the last few months was the equivalent of $3600 AU. It was sold in the US about 3 weeks ago. It's no marketing scam, just the way prices have gone on certain vintage pieces over the last 5 years, quite silly. We just don't want to lowball another TR'er
I blame ebay.

Wow, if you can get those prices. I'd get rid of it while you still can. Like all things hired, its going to need servicing to keep it at it's optimal best now or eventually. I don't know about you, but most things that get hired aren't usually taken cared of by the hirer. Even if they are your friends, they still won't respect it like as if it's their own.
Ive seen the condition of alot of hired out old boutique gear and I hope yours is in better condition. It's when you open it up and look inside and see the frosting on the circuit boards thru age. I've bought hired out gear before and ended up spending more than the piece was worth trying to get it to acceptable specs. I'd never buy on again, not with all the current gear and remakes out there.
Thats just my experience, but I'd say sell it unless you are a collector or can afford the maintenance involved.

The URIE 1176 black face F series is a sought after issue of the 1176 line. A mate of mine who has one says that the Purple MC77 comp is very close to the 1176 F series.
If anything Dale should charge more for his 1176 out on hire.

Let me just say the Purple MC77 is a work of art. If the F series is close or dare I say it" better".
I wouldn't be letting that thing out of my clutches.
I think though the Purple is based on the D/E revisions. Much attention has been paid to components as well including the Clarostat 600Ohm T- Attenuator and high grade Elna Cerafine capacitors.

I think you might be referring to the MC76 as parts were no longer available to make the MC76 they had to resource to make those new parts for the MC77 plus add a few features which I think still makes the MC77 a better model than the MC76.
If I needed a 1176 clone I would not hesitate to buy an MC77 over the reissue UA1176.

Production on the MC76 stopped due to the unavailability of the T- Attenuator (used in the original 1176 versions A-F). Once another source was found production resumed with a couple of minor peripheral features and renamed the MC77. It's basically the same design using the T-Attenuator feeding the UTC-012 transformer. Purple Audio make a replication of the UTC-012 transformer also.
The Universal Audio clone doesn’t use the same input configuration.

The early UA reissues - up to 1959 I think? - used the correct input attenuator. In between that number and somewhere around 3000 they used a different setup but overlooked mentioning it.

So I gather when the part became unavailable around 2002 they changed the input setup where Purple Audio paused production..
I also remember a UA tech mentioning on PSW Forum that in incorrect resistor value in a critical area was used at one stage.
