How to get piezo pickup recorded acoutic sounding better

Postby lonearranger » Wed Mar 25, 2009 12:33 pm

Hi,

I am mixing some songs at the moment, lots of which have acoustic guitars which have been recorded with a peizo pickup.

I am look at ways to try to get the guitars sounding more like natural acoustics.

Does anyone have experience with using convolution/impulses or things like the fishman auras, and how close to a good sound has this brought you?

Has anyone ever recorded acoustic guitar impules and how?

Any other suggestions to getting a better sound, or should I just accept that it will sound crap until the guitars are miced and replayed.

Cheers

What works with snare and sometimes with Di guitar is feed the recorded pizeo signal, eq'ed to taste, to a speaker and place the speaker next to an acoustic on a stand so the speaker signal exites the strings on the guitar. You wil have to move it around till you get the best results. Mic and record the guitar trying to avoid as much as possible the direct sound of the speaker. When blended with the original these overtones of the real acoustic can help make the final a bit more natural.
