Who's Up For A Listening Session

Postby Aearth » Fri Mar 27, 2009 3:50 pm

I want to try out the Beesnezz mics for myself who's in. We are not buyers but users so it's going to be subjective all the way.
We should also try out the following:
Wunder PEQ-1
LTD-1
Peter's BAE 1073 hopefully
I'll try and get a AMS 1073
MICS
All of Peter's mics hopefully if he wants to play.
My mics because I want play.
BEESNEZZ Mics...... Arabella, James, Jade

Looking at near the end of April when my gear gets back from gigging.
I'll supply the BBQ you guys can supply the booze.

I'm always in nIC. My new CS-1's are still a month or so away though. I'd love to a/b them against all the others as previously mentioned.

Let me know when you had in mind. And Yes, I'll break out a BAE 1073 for this session.

Cheers

Heath said he'll be there and Dave Hammer as well.
Oh I bought another Chandler LTD-1, couldn't help myself. I got Mick Wordley at a weak moment in the morning just after he had his coffee...... I felt good, I mean...I felt bad.

Hey guys,

This is my first post, ive been viewing Turtlerock for a while and post on Slutz.

Id be interested in attending, simply for the fun of it :-)

If the day selected is suitable,i sometimes work weekends,i can bring along any of the following stuff if it interests anyone.....

Orig 1073's,La Chapell 992EG.

C12,U47,U67,KH U87.

Some mics may still be in Gunters paws around that period. Most should be available, though.

Thanks,

Mike Longhurst

Hi Mike you are welcome for sure. The 1073 and some of the mics will be cool if you can swing it.
PS With you coming we don't need Peter anymore :)

Run it past the 2IC Peter, see what he thinks. If the mics are in they will need to be tested outside, you know how Heath feels about the toxicity of those mics :)

Hmmmm I wish I could get my Tele v676b's racked before the session to compare with the v76m, I know tube verse solid state but would still be interesting.

Actually will be very interesting to hear the v76m compared with Nic's Mercury m72s.

Rick,

It could go way back to the old forum format but there was a comment that mildly "surprised" me at the time which is why I remember.........anyways mate, no matter. What "amuses" me more than either of our memories failing is the "closed door" attitude towards throwing a cheaper Chinese mic into the mix.

It seems strange to me that it's acceptable, even desirable, for an american company (or a lot of them!) to directly knock off classic designs and sell them for very high prices. Prices that in no way reflect the fact the manufacturer has done little actual R&D. But a chinese company does it much more cheaply and it's something to be ashamed of. If a design is a knock off, it's a knock off regardless of price.

For the sake of discussion, please define "classic design" and who has legal rights to said designs.

Have to agree with Kurt there.... very true.

I bet Neumann could re-badge a chinese mic, triple the price and everyone would wet their pants. Even if it didn't sound as good...."but it's a neumann!" they would cry.

Personally, after trawling the various forums for too long now I'm really over the "which is better/which is best" style comparisons and the various degrees of "neve-like" questions and how close is xyz knockoff to the real thing. It's like people are spending 99% of their energy looking for 1% that will bring them closer to a non existent electrical utopia. Yaaaaaaaaawn.

What's best? Whatever does the damn job.

But of course, that's just an opinion.

That doesn't answer my question regarding mics.
