John Farnham Cadbury ad.
Has anyone seen that "new" Cadbury ad Where the Gorillla is playing drums!?
The original version with the Phil Collins track was great. Now they chuck John Farnham on there and the would be fine with me but the visual is soooooo out of sync with the image... its not even close! It's really terrible. Someone in the post production field should really lose their job for that.
It's relevant to the forum because it's audio related.

TotALLY! Well, i don't really watch TV so the add has probably been on for a while but i just saw it for the first time about an hour or so ago while watching the footy at a mates place and it was just bugging the hell out of me. Its just plain sloppy! How hard is it to get a drumming monkey in time with a track... Even before digital technology this would not be so hard... Its not TVS FFS...
Meh, I'm over it... Still, Terrible job.

Totally.
But seriously, the drumming monkey could do a better than whoever was working on that add!
Just get like 2 or 3 of the drum hits in time... In fact, if you made just a single loop like a *.gif you would be doing a better job.
Can anyone feel the bitterness in my words? :P

Yeah, saw it. My wife and I are fans of the Phil Collins version. One of the best ads done in a long time IMHO. We cringed when we saw it. The editor should be sacked for the poor cut. With the tools available today there is no excuse for such bad sync. As for the song, well, I guess Wheatley must need some cash after his stint in jail. As for the ad agency that did it.... tell me who it was so I can be sure to avoid their "creatives". Agencies suck and this is one good reason why.

Yeah! I find it very difficult to watch. It's quite annoying. Can't believe how out of sync it is! But I liked the first one. It was a good ad... it made me stop and watch it for some reason... never made me by chocolate though. More so made me want to have a bash. Hehehe.

Ryan mate you beat me to it, I was gonna post on that ad, it is a friggin shocker, also what the f#$% has a monkey bangin drums got to do with chocolate anyway.
I'm amazed no one has mentioned the loudness as well, it is damn awful, I know the original music is not that bright and loud, it's bright but not as evil as the advert. Let me guess, waves ssl channel into waves ssl comp into L2.
It's almost twice as loud as any other ad on tv, whoever did this abortion of a job should not be allowed near audio or video tools.

ummm, no, it doesn't. And the sync we're talking about here is 5 or 6 frames, maybe more on some cuts.
As a concept, it has been incredibly successful. It's gone viral on the net which is a big indicator of success.
Here's the original:

The crap 'You're The Voice' edit:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9TvsMDXWUvg
At least some of the others have had better luck with their sync...

The gorilla is actually meant to look like phil collins, when he is getting ready to drum and everything.. thats why it is a drumming gorilla just to hang shit on phil collins....
I have not seen a commercial in probably 3 months, just stopped watching television. not enough time

They only play the phil colins one here in the UK.
...they play two others as well, which are just as odd but rather amusing I thought.

Speaking of very poor audio sync, I just watched Rockwiz tonight (the ONLY show I enjoy these days) and it was VERY BADLY synced..
Sync went out about half way thru the show.. Was very noticable and more annoying than anything..

And lots of digital distortion around the same time ( at least from the Newcastle transmitter). Now there's a great sound for ya!

I remember seeing the original Phil Collins version on youtube a few months before it was released in Australia. LOVED IT! I remember thinking "Why don't we have adds like this in Australia!?"
Sure enough it came out a few months later and I was stoked and yet annoyed when I was asked if I'd seen it. I became one of those "I saw it ages ago, before U saw it!" Kinda guys. Whom i hate :P
As for the agency, no idea, but yes someone needs to be sacked. I'd like to see a press release with a formal apology for making myself (and others) enraged! And then someone can pay me to do it again in sync. (No I'm not much of an AV guy, but that's what I think our point is, anyone withe ears and eyes who knows how to use a computer could sync it up better...) Maybe the drumming monkey was hired to sync it up...

I don't see whats so great about the original. But maybe i watch too many ads and they've all lost their appeal.
Looks to me like the editor on the Aussie version gave it a good go, the reason no one knows who did it is cause they probably don't want to put their name on it!
