WANTED DBX160 or nice compressor

Hi

In the market for one of these or a nice compressor as it's what is lacking from my studio.

I want the dedicated compressor and I'm after one that imparts a sound (not transparent)

There's a dbx 160X on the bay at the mo.. pretty well priced too..

I used to have one of these in my big guitar rack.. nice mono comp.
I paid $900 for mine yrs ago.. :-(

Kinda sad that you can get a new 160A from the US cheaper than a second hand one here.

I think I'll wait and just go the one good one. The160X's and A's are a last resort really.

Some one around must have a Nice compressor hanging around looking sad cause the fairchild moved in eh :D

I have built a few GSSL compressors and have one more I could afford to get rid of. [NOW SOLD]

Built with good quality components and has that great VCA sound. It's the original GSSL design with a sidechain High pass filter.

I have to say I'm tempted but I really need a tracking compressor and you said you hadn't used it for tracking.

Ahh yes.

Your right I much prefer tracking with an 1176 or Distressor. ;-)

Mmmm

It seems that I can not find one :(

Nothing over at mixmasters either (although they are pretty pricy)

So any idea's on where to find a nice tracking compressor that will impart a sound.

Budget would be around 1k (maybe more for the right one)

Yea I do but that was a 160X

I was after the half rack 160

But proving hard to track one down hence why I'm broadening my criteria.

There are a pair of McCurdy fet comps racked which are on mixmasters. Well priced and apparently really great.
Just incase you missed them.
If you want the 160, you can get them quite easy on eBay US, but for what price is the question.

If you want sometime with character get the Purple MC77 from Legacy Audio. You just can't have enough of these.

If you want dirty compression you could use a cheap valve pre and drive it hard ;)

The paper mache balloon option is looking better and better ain't it?
