tama mic stands

anybody know who is the supplier for these guys in australia?

musiclab used to stock them, but i got blank looks last time i them about it...

Australian Tama distributor is Australis Music - they only deal with retailers though!
Any Tama drum dealer should be able to get them in for you.

I had a few of these years ago and thought they were rock solid - until the plastic on the bases split and tripods folded in on themselves etc..
We've been through the whole "which mic stand is best" thing over and over.. with our Rehearsal Studio business and Live Production company we have now settled on the following..

Rehearsal stands = Proel - cheap and decent quality - parts are easily accessable. we have 20 in our new complex and so far have only had a problem with 2 knobs being de-threaded = easily fixed.. that is in a year of rehearsal studio abuse!

Live stands = K&M... nothing beats them for their longevity and sturdiness..

Recording Studio = we have a mixture of old heavy base stands we have fixed up and sprayed the bases white.. plus a few big studio booms etc..

to me, the k&m's seem to go a bit soft if people overtighten them, whereas i haven't noticed that problem so much on the tama's.

which leads me to another point, is there anywhere you can get replacement 'bushes' or whatever you would call them, for k&m's? i loaned all of my stands to friend a couple of months ago and later discovered he had done them up as tight as he could, while holding heavy mic's, and left them that way for about a week or so. now they won't even hold up nt5's... (which also leads to a whole bunch of viagra jokes..)

K&M stands are great but I've got the same problem - clutch just won't hold mics up and the adjusting handle is just too dinky to be able to do up tightly. That's what is nice about Tama stands, it's a nice big metal handle to tighten and the clutch seems to stay good for a long time.

Also, the Tama stands have a small thread end, whereas the K&M stand I've got has a large thread end. This is a major PITA as the mic clip I want to attach always has the wrong thread. But that's really my problem...

Tama stands used to be made in Japan, now they're made in China. I'm yet to see a difference between the two - I thought there'd be a poorer quality alloy used but all my stands have held up OK (certain cast items I have from China have broken to reveal sand or filler in the metal - I guess to save money and increase yield).
