Linking 002s

Does anyone know if it's possible to link 2 002s together using 2 computers? So you'd have double the I/Os?

I was pondering this a while ago too. We have a couple of ADATs here, so I was thinking maybe you could generate sync from one and feed it to both 002 systems... you'd need some sort of splitter to do it though. Would that work?

what about using two 002's in the one computer - specifically to transfer 16 track reel to reel takes in one pass???

harry, a 002 and an 8 channel ADAT converter will do that for you, like a makie onyx or presonus doobie... we do 16 track tape to 002 and protools transfers at work it works quite well

linking two of them? don't know... not sure how tools would work with two firewire units connected, i'm sure they'd rather you bought a HD sytem instead

I sorta do this with 001's

I'm pretty sure digi have their crippleware hats on this for 001 and 002...you cannot run two cards in the same system(all digi guarantees for thru put etc is limited to one card per machine)

I use a smpte to midi converter that generates time-code and then spits out MTC to the two systems...seems to work ok.

The latency is the only problem if the cards are different (thats why one has to run identical cards and with the same buffer on each computer)
This is on OS 9...(I'm glad i'm a luddite) :lol:

hay mark,

one way you could run 2 002Rs on 2 seperate computers alongside eachother would be to use one to run audio and the other to run instruments via midi. no sink required... just a midi cable

it a good way for composers to get a heap more native power, kind of like the way guys run gigastudio.

i was going to say the same thing - use a midi cable and slave the 2ndary unit to the primary unit (which 002 is which? that's your choice)
this would work equally for syncing a 002 with a 001.
much like hooking a midi sequencer to protools, this midi time-code sync will play and stop both units from the one transport.

me, i use smpte to sync my 8track reel to reel with protools so i can track drums to tape and the rest of the band to hdd with a subsequent tape-dump onto hdd.

but smpte has a much slower hook-up than midi timecode.

re. running two 002's on one pc, i'm thinking protools wont let you. as it is, i dont believe we can use a 002 with a firewire or USB convertor (a la mini-me or onyx firewire) - it's s/pdif or adat.

anyone care to verify the inability to lock a firewire or usb a/d onto a 002 system?????
