Monitor amp advice

Ive never really had to deal with monitor amps as I only use powered speakers. Im a guitarist so I always worked on the thought that you shouldn't surpass the wattage of the speakers with the power amp, but I know this is not the case with pas. Whats the rule with monitors? If I was to run a pair of speakers that are 100 watt each what should I look for?

hi mick... generally, the bigger the better, depending on the size of the room you need to load, and the efficiency of the speakers.

100 watt speakers (say NS10 or similar) in a smallish room - 150 a side, 200W would be cookin nicely. big room... 300-350 a side would be great. don't be scared.

i have some old soundcraft absolute 2s, i have used them with the bryston 4BST occasionally (350 wpc), is nice, i like.

well if you want a work horse that sounds fantastic, should never break down and will be your friend for life - Bryston!

you could pick up one of the old phase linear boat anchors for a couple hundred if you snoop around.

my recent first hand experience is a bit limited since i settled on the Bryston/PMC combination several years ago.

I tend to stay away from mosfet amps because the output reduces when they warm up a bit. The old crown DC 300 amps are often a good deal and the Quad amps are also worth a look.
