Postby DwaneHollands » Tue Jul 28, 2009 5:57 pm

Hi Everyone,

Pretty excited to have my registration accepted on this forum!

Being smashing the archives for weeks, so it's good to be able to finally post. (I actually didn't realise I had been accepted and thought I might have slipped through the cracks, so I attempted another register and found that I'd already been accepted.)

As far as my experience goes, I'm a dead-set amateur really trying to improve my mixing chops. Spending way too much money in an effort to get release quality stuff (cough, cough). But I think it's going to be a very long road to get to that level - or even close (laugh, cry)

Um, I'm a guitarist and I play piano aswell (wouldn't dare call myself a pianist). Have a small MBOX 2 system, Amplitube 2, BFD2 on the way, Legacy MIDI kit (garbage, but hey I'm using BFD2 right?). OK, don't laugh but I have a Studio Projects VTB1 and be!@#$%^& B1 Pro mic (cough, cough..somethin stuck in my throat). I have that ARC room correction system too. Didn't have much success with it. Moved rooms so now I need to re-calibrate.

Have a dedicated room for it at my companies factory now (www.hollands.com.au). Not perfect, but better than my bedroom.

So that's a bit of background about me and the gear I currently have. Looking forward to participating and maybe eventually helping someone else!

P.S. Wow B-E-H-R-I-N-G-E-R must be a dirty word on this forum, as it censored me! That's funny!

Ma-Hoova?

Postby DwaneHollands » Tue Jul 28, 2009 6:19 pm

Not actually seen MacGyver!

He's the guy who takes ordinary house hold items to get out of ridiculous situations, right? (If I have been informed correctly)

Do you like MacGyver?

P.S. Checked your myspace and listened to your live song. Sounds great. Amazing how present the piano is at the start. Extremely tight performance too! Couldn't load the other songs unfortunately.

Iced Vovo's? It has been so long since I've had one of those. Very vague recollection of that. Perhaps at my Grandma's when I was very young.

But I will make a menz and get some tonight! No doubt a MacGyver marathon and a packet of Ice Vovo's would be the best initiation - however getting MacGyver episodes is probably very difficult at short notice!

Not to worry, I have to track guitars tonight anyways...

Some Pictures of my Room.

Postby DwaneHollands » Tue Jul 28, 2009 7:37 pm

OK, this is my 'control room'. A very messy one at that, at the moment! I've got an angled roof, carpeted floors (although wooden floors with Rugs to 'control reflections' is the ultimate I read recently here)

Hey Andy,
I just had a look at your page. Is that console an SSL or is it a Ta@#$% m700 (known as a baby ssl I'm told)? Also if its the Ta@#$%, is it the old Atlantis board?

Holy crap its a small world. I would have bought it but I was basically second in line to you. From memory I was waiting to find out if it was going to fit in your control room. If it hadn't fit, I would have bought it.
I take it you would have gone right through it hey. Its a good board from memory, and actually the first large board I ever saw when I was a kid in high school. I guess it left an impression.

I remember Dave mentioning you Mat. I said "Is that the $*&% with the iced Vovos?" and he said "Yeah, and whatever you do, don't mention Macguyver".
Seriously though, done everything except some of the channels being recapped and the odd pot. The master section had soooo many caps. I still haven't recovered enough to do the rest of the channels yet. I did a couple and can't really hear much of an improvement, but I'll get around to it. There's something like 4000 in the whole desk.
We only just got it into the room because of this stupid half wall thing that is structural. Literally made it in by a few mm.
There were some good tunes done on it at Atlantis, although Wez would know more than me. I think it originally was at Timbertop in Warrenwood, which became Fast Forward. So she's had a lot of grubby fingers on 'er.
Shoulda seen the stuff that came out of all the faders.

Just a query.

Any suggestions as to the best way for me to share my MP3's with you guys, so that if I need to show you a sample of my recordings, you're able to quickly download it?
