Ok, recently i had a sit down with a producer i get work through, and he told me that his protools plugs sounded identical
to the original hardware bits they were modeled after.
I quietly thought to my self "yer right.." A few years ago i had tried ALL of the name brands and a bunch of others..
None of them compared to the results of high end hardware.
Now .. I recently demo'ed the IK's T-Racks plugs and got a little shock.. their compressors rock.
I found one that sounded great on a job i was doing..so i bought it...
But then realised they were in the middle of a (buy one get more free promo) so i then got 4 more free.. :-)
$130 bucks and almost all the Delux Mastering suite Package.

Nothing replaces the hardware goodies i own, but the new plugs slow down some of my late night gear lustings..

Ok I will confess to using and liking T racks as well.
I bought the version when Rudd handed out the money and got the whole package with the crossgrade price. I think it ending up costing me about $420.
I really like the Brickwall limiter.
I have never used a real Fairchild before so have no idea what the emulated should sound like. I have not used it much as I am not sure how to as my other plug-in comps and hardware comps are go to firsts.
Maybe I should take some time out and learn it.
The Linear Eq is also a nifty device.
I like to use the presets and just do a little tweaking form there.
Though I think I might buy the PSP old Timer compressor because that is so super easy to get good results. I love what it does for BAss guitar and it has 0 latency on Pro Tools.

So far I've got the "670" and the "opto" for compression, and the "eq1a" and the "linear phase" for eq. Which leaves one for me to get.

The metering? Nah, Logic's meter mostly does this anyways. I mostly track and mix, which means I'm leaning towards the classic compressor, but am torn about the brickwall. Any thoughts from the great land of pluggers?

Slept on it, then went with the Brickwall- so I ended up with all of the new "deluxe" mastering set apart from the metering.

I'm going to go in for this deal - It's a great saving on what, from all reports, are great plugs. I don't have any of the T-Racks stuff, but I tried out an eq ages ago and liked it.

So I have 4 to choose (1 to buy, 3 to get for free).... help me decide people - I'm tracking and mixing, not mastering - which are the top 4?

Its better than that - buy 1, get 4 for free, 5 in total.

The plugs are basically in two groups - the "classic" set of 4 (eq, compressor, clipper, multi-band limiter) that were put out as the elements of the mastering "T-Racks" (T-Rex, get it?) program. Then there are the 6 new ones: emulations of the Fairchild 670 limiter, Pultec EQ1A, an opto compressor, brickwall limiter, linear phase eq and a metering plug.

Like you, I'm no mastering guru - that's why we have Rick - so I went for the new ones less the metering (as Logic already has a good metering plug). My thinking FWIW was to get clean and coloured eq (Linear Phase and Pultec respectively) and clean and coloured comp (opto and 670 respectively), and have the brickwall up my sleeve for when I need it (and also in part from Ha-Dale's experience of the plug). The Classic comp is, by all accounts, a nice warm comp as well, but I have my Gyraf SSL clones for that sound if I need it.

You have to buy the first one by itself, and get it "authorised" by the end of August to qualify. Buy it online and you get sent an email with a serial number, and an account in their "user area": you log on and go to your downloads area. Download and install the plug. Then open your DAW and try to insert the plug: you will get the authorisation wizard. You enter your serial number, and it generates a "digital id" for your computer. It then connects to the 'net and gets an "authorisation number", which you can cut and paste into the authorisation wizard window. You're then set to run with that plug.

Having done all that, you go back to your user area and click on promotions - you'll see 4 slots of freebies, which you can click on in succession to get your 4 free extra plugs. You then have to go through the whole authorisation process again for each of them, but then its done. BTW, you seem to only get 5 "authorisations" for each plug, one of which is used up right away as you get the first one running. Each machine you install them one then needs its own "authorisation". I'm not sure if you can de-authorise a computer to get one back, but if not, be aware that the plug can only be installed on 5 machines and then you've done your money. Watch out if you're about to upgrade your machine! The good news is that you can reauthorise on the same machine at any time, so having an HD crash won't rub out an authorisation.

Finally, there's a little easter egg - if they get enough takers for this offer (2000 or thereabouts), they're going to give averyone a sixth plug for free - their CSR hall reverb one. If this happens, that will be 6 plugs at about $20 each (yeah, but will it take over from Sound Designer? Maybe not). Anyway, they've had 1901 takers, so only another 99 are needed!

Just spent the night remixing a few old projects to try out the T-Racks stuff I've got. Guys, well worth the download. AU$126 to get close to AU$700 worth of plugs is really a bargain, especially when they're such a high quality. And with the possibility of a 6th plug (the reverb) for no additional cost if a few more people get in on the deal - I'm a very happy camper!

What! I hear of a B@r*>?er hardware unit for the same price that will make my mixes sound like everyone else!! ie Professional like, and really really loud! and its automatic, only got one preset, got a 20 year warranty, runs off a single AAA battery, and needs no instructon manual cause its permanently linked to its own you- tube page! Looks to me like it's a license for ONE plug.... anyone confirm/deny?

The 5x1 offer direct from IK is also download... took me about 25 minutes from first purchase to having all plugs installed and authorised and on channels in a mix. :)

Yes it does look like that is a price for one of the plugs in the 10 series of single units. You have to read it well.
I am not too sure but it may not be part of the group buy thing as well.

Slightly off subject:
Got a letter today from Newcastle Building Society, suggesting it might be a good idea to replace my credit card as I had used it in Italy recently (well I bought the plugs from Ik multimedia). Apparently there is a very widespread scam going on in Italy using credit card phishing and theft. Just a reminder that it can happen and be careful using credit cards online. I never thought I'd be thankful for Paypal.
