Postage costs from USA
Has anyone here imported in rack gear from US lately? Just interested in a ruff idea of the current costs

yes, a little while ago..
I bought a 2 rack space stereo EQ which cost me about $80US and a Palmer PDI-03 single rack space which I think I paid about 40-$45US.
We used UPS EMI option - seemed to be the most economical..

I've been given a few quotes and was amazed at the price differences - so thats why i asked. 90-100 seems about average but had one want $250 bucks - i guess it was to fund the massive amounts of crack he must be smoking.

I recently got a quote from Vintage King for a Millennia HV-3C DC and it was going to cost me US $140. Pricey. That doesn't include customs charges after the fact either - something I was slugged with recently when I bought a Coles 4038. (shipping charge from that was US $100, $50 AUD customs charge.

Alot of US stores seem to MAKE money on their shipping... Ebay is renowned for this too..
When you get the item and look at the shipping sticker, its quite often less than what you paid (significantly too)

The old EMI unit has been shipped via FedEx, which was over $200. But I knew that in advance.
USPS is very reasonable, but most stores and many Ebayers insist on couriers such as FedEx, DHL and UPS.
Then I think most of the shipping rates are over $100.

the actual cost of shipping via USPS (shown on the docket), and that's what I usually get charged, is around $55 for a 1u and $75 for a 2u unit..Boxes would of course be around 2u and 3u in size respectively when the units are properly, securely packed.
I've only used USPS so far, and had no issues at all..Usually takes about 5-7 working days.
Couriers are too expensive...
