Is anyone using Beez Neez Mics?
I am looking for a good vocal mic for my mobile toolbox, and was wondering if anyone has used these mic's and how do they stack up against a U67 or a Wagner 47 (Ive got a matched pair of Wagners and love em)
Anyone done any comparisons - or anyone want to hire one so I can do some AB's?
I have to buy one to try it and am reluctant to go there - only to find I really want a U67 (which are so over priced these days)

Chris I hav'nt used them but I reckon you need a Soundelux E251 regardless. I could be wrong for your preferences but I really really really really wanna get 1. :) I hav'nt met anyone who's not liked one after hearing it yet.

Yes though still reasonable for the superb quality. I think the Bock 251's are the same, though not 100% sure.

I would rather support the Aussie mic makers at the end of the day - as long as I am getting a great mic that I want to keep/use for many years to come.

I think the Arabella sounds most like a u47

The Soundelux Elux251 is exactly the same as the Bock 251. Both made by David Bock. He used to work for Soundelux but now works for himself. They are fantastic microphones, possibly the best I've heard. Certainly the best I currently own, however, I'm hoping my pair of Lucas CS-1's will leave everything in their dust when they arrive.

As for Beez Neez, I've never had the pleasure. Contact Ben. I'm sure he'll send you some to trial or point you in the right direction.

If your looking to support Aussie manufacturers, the Rode Classic II works great on many sources.

Elux 251 is best mic i've heard ;-)

not that i really believe in any mic which is the "best", however i certainly will say that on the correct sources, it is an amazing mic.

sounds like it has built in compressor + eq mojo.

the first mic ive ever used which i didnt really feel like EQing (on vocals)

I have heard the beez kneez mics at Electric Avenue. On some vocalists, they were better suited than other mics (u47s, m49, u87, etc)

certainly worth listening to and judging for yourself!

The CS-1's have the same Bock capsule as the ELUX. Also, Oliver Archut makes the transformer for the ELUX and he also has designed and made the CS-1 transformer and electronics. I am expecting great things. According to Terry Manning, the first 100 units should be delivered by AES in October. Fingers crossed. I'm numbers 90 & 91.

Sorry if we have gone off topic. Ben has promised a mic shootout when the CS-1's arrrive. It will be a good time to get to know his mics.

In all seriousness, I just can't get over the wait times, we have made and delivered over 400 mics this last year. Some of my customers call, email and moan incessantly after 4 weeks let alone a year.....

hope they arrive soon, i need another excuse to spend a few days in sydney.

Even though i ask for payment up front, i also have a full money back guarantee. If you don't love the mic, even after a month or so, i will give you a full refund. The only reason i do it this way is that i would have so many requests for mic trials and be chasing my mics accross the country. At least this way i get to sort out the men from the boys as far as genuine interest goes.

If you are after a 47 or 67 sound then i feel that the advice you have been recieving re the bock/soundelux 251 is not what you are after as the 251 shares no commonality with the sound you are chasing.

I guess your probably right, however it was only a 50% downpayment to secure your place on the 1st 100. Materials were not being ordered until all places had been filled.

You have the added advantage of making your own capsules. Oliver was relying on Haun to deliver. They then have to go through David Bock's hands as these capsules are his design. If you have been following the thread at PSW you would see how much work went into the metal bodies and swivels with Jeff Roberts. I guess all these things take time.

Anyhow, mid to late October seems like the delivery time.

I agree, as good as the ELUX is, it sounds nothing like a U47/U67.

I agree 100% also, though seeing Chris already has a matched pair of U47's, I suggested the 251 as something totally different (shoulda said that) for someone who enjoys a superb mic which would suit most anything.

Still keen to come to the next mic sesh and check out your stuff Ben. I also agree with supporting Aussies.

I believe Ben has embarked on a U67 model.

The U67 does indeed share the same capsule as the U87 (K67/K870).With the exception of U87's that were manufactured pre 1986.

The U67 uses an EF86 tube.Its circuit is vastly different than the FET U87.Considerably more complex with the implementation of many filters.

I am yet to hear a clone of a U67 or any current production mic(with the exception of the U87) that has used the K67 capsule blow my socks off.This is a bright dual-backplate capsule and attention needs to be paid to the circuit.

In comparing the U67 to a U47.I prefer to hear U67's on overheads,acoustics and guitar cabs.The U47 has a beast of a midrange.I generally prefer the U47 on male vocals and room mics.I must admit,when a U47 works with a particular voice,nothing does what it does.Real magic!

I have an Innertube mod for my U87 which converts a Stock U87ai to a Valve mic. Whilst it improves the stock mic substantially, it doesn't turn it into a U67.

I suppose I am looking for a mic that is great on vocals that is not stupidly over priced (i'm sick of buying gear).
The only 3 mic's I have ever really fallen for is the Wagner 47 and the odd killer U67 plus an amazing m49 and a RCA44.
Unfortunately I have never had the pleasure of a 251 - but am extremely interested as so many engineers I respect swear that they are the bomb.
And Ben - I totally understand you not wanting to chase mics all around the world.
My description for wanting a 67 or 47 was pretty vague - I am totally open to falling in love with a Elam251 ish design.
The thing I like about your approach is that the mics can be tweeked and modified to suit my needs after they have been made - This is a real plus for me.
Thanks for all the feedback guys - got me thinking about really zooming in on what I really want from a mic.
I want to find a mic that I really love and want to keep for decades.

microphone. It Uses the same mulitichambered capsule (ck12) as the 251 and an amazing Mullard tube (cv4031).
