Listening Speakers

So my home was burgled yesterday and was a bit of a mess but luckily it was just tv, laptop, monitor and other easy to move (fence) items and the other stuff was left alone! But my lounge listening speakers were taken! So i'm in the market to replace my tannoys with something that will suit my VTL tube pre and Krell poweramp (which I was either really lucky or they were either too heavy or unknown). I haven't been shopping in this area for a while, so what's hot at the moment? (pardon the pun)

yeah a bit bummed but such is life, I and the wife are ok, just a little more wary of other human beings now. Buggers!!!

Barney, with a Krell power amp I,m assuming you are after something audiophile - I would check out the genuine HI-Fi shops (Len Wallis?). Krix (made in Aust) are worth a look but there are a heap so once you choose it'll be good - hopefully there's a silver lining in what was initially a crap experience.

bummer about the theft. Having just recently setup my Tannoy Berkleys I can only imagine the grief in losing yours.

I've always been tempted by VAF speakers, like Krix also made here in Adelaide. You can get them as kits or fully assembled. Some of the reviews i've read have been very positive and the couple of models i've heard have impressed with their accuracy and lack of hype.

Sorry to hear of your inconvenience Barney. I know there are alot of speakers out there really but Acoustic Research make a great speaker - I have had their 310HO series floor standing speakers since the mid-90's (when I was right into Hi-Fi) and they are awesome.
However, they make a superb bookshelf speaker also..
It was a toss up between AR and Richter speakers at the time.. but both are super.

They're not very hip brand wise but I have a pair of Canadian made Athena speakers that I just love. Gotta find a replacement pair now as my 3 year old has finally poked them one time too many.

Hey Barney, ask Ross Giles about the Elektra reference amp.

Highly recommend Bryston too of course.

Hey guys, been away for gigs sorry I haven't replied earlier. Well had news today they have 2 culprits in custody and looking for a third!!!! Not sure how much stuff will be recovered but here's hoping. Just hope they aren't trashed.

Funny you say that. They caught the guys eventually who did me over also. When I first talked to the police about it I said "I guess it's unlikely you'll catch the guys". They actually seemed upset by the comment as seemed pretty confident they would catch up with them.

Problem is, they are most probably 14 yo or younger...slap on the wrist and then they're off
doing more houses again !
