They're trying out the new Macs at the studio office with the all in one thing where it's all in the monitor with the wireless mouse and keyboard. Pretty ferkin impressive I must say and I'm not a mac guy. Screen is way bright and happy lookin..Runs Windows mega fast on that VM whatever thing, fusion whatchamacallit..I may get one for home. What is the world coming to?

I was at a studio last night who just got a new Mac (he runs Vegas and 3 x MOTU 896HD's) - not sure what Mac it was but looked like a G5 from memory.
He was demo'ing me a session and the program (Vegas) crapped out - the OS just said that the OS environment was unaffected - relaunch, close or reboot.. How cool...
So much nice than Windoze BSOD (not that I've had one for a while either)
Windows 7 should be interesting.. hmmm.. Time to upgrade XP soon maybe.

I'm slowly being persuaded to lean to mac side of things.

after a long time building my own pc's i've come to the "do i spend the coin on a new i7extreme or do i spend the money on something audio related?" hmmm.... the great debate.

but i will say in regards to tims last post, i've been having trouble in logic lately, every time i rewire into reason and try and have more than 20 tracks running and then try and satrt an audio recording then logic has a fart, a grey box appears and it thinks im out of ram or something.

now i've heard if your hdd is close to capacity + or - 10% then you will have troubles, is this correct?

if true then i should consider removing all the non essentials from the master and try tracking directly to external when recording. not that i dont do that if im tracking a real source, but if i'm going to record directly to logic via rewire then i will still have the same problem yes?

Had a bit of a look at the 27" iMac at JB today. Very tempting (my wife will want one)...

The 27" is available with i5 quad or i7 quad as a special order - now that will rock for pretty much anything - and it looks real shinny and perty. These will not be available for a few more weeks so they tell me.

I really Like Mac's , I think they are the most innovative builders.

i personally use PC because of choice.

But. It is absolutely fact.. that.
Macs aren't any more reliable than PC's especially if well built.

Infact, 2 large Notebook builders have lower failure rates for Laptops.

It is, also really shitty how they do not take resposibility when they make firmware/software errors.

iphone OS3 error? no official problem? It is now fixed but still.

New Mac Pro arriving here in a week or two. Still sorting out a few extras like more ram, 3Tb of disk space and the optional Mac Pro raid card with 512MB cache and 72-hour cache battery backup. Should be fun trying to max it out with a Logic session.

One of my mac pro's has the Raid card, bought it primarily for video. Haven't been able to make it stall yet.

Noticed US prices have also dropped recently. I can get an 8 core with 8gig ram and 1tb drive for $3.8 aussie from Apple store via itunes rep. Wish I had the cash right now!

ahaaaa..... but mine are "working macs".... like working dogs on a farm. I wouldn't need so many if only they had more PCI slots... even just one more!

Yeah that gets me too, they seem to be making all these killer systems and being tight with pci slots, you would think they would double the amount.

Dunno mate, just referring to mother boards in general, just seems harder to find one with heaps of slots, maybe I'll just have to look harder when I build my next machine.

They have 4. One (16x) for the grfx card, one (x8) which I use for very fast local storage... I'm talking 600mb/s read/write for HD video.... then 2 (x4 slots) which get used for a fiber card and the HD video i/o. I'd love just one more slot to house a Red Rocket card. Would give me real time RED camera rushes. This card is a beastie!

But like I said, about $3.8k for an 8 core with 8gig ram via itunes rep so I'm not that bummed. Just need to get better and start working again and I'll be back in happy mac land.
