AIrport express vs extreme.

Hey Mac peoples,
I'm looking for a wireless solution at home. I've heard different stories from different people about transfer speeds with the airport express, depending on distance. I just want to plug my DLS modem into it and be able to get access to the net from anywhere in my place. Does anyone have experience with the express and is the speed good? I seem to get around 12Mbps/sec at home on my DSL with it connected via etherenet.
Any opinions?

We use an express to DLS router at home for the last 4 years.
We went through 3 DSL modems and have had no problems with the Express system.
We are using ADSL 2+. I think we are losing about 1Mb/s using it wireless then using a straight Ethernet to computer connection. But this has never been a problem considering the reliability factor in using it.
I have no experience with the extreme.

Extreme rips. very fast. Using it on ADSL2+. I'll measure it when I'm back in the studio.

It's a palaver using it with telco supplied modems isn't it?
I've tried to add mine to an Optus DSL modem and it just doesn't want to know.
I googled it and found many Optus and Telstra customers having the same issue.
The solution is to go into your Telco's software set up and disable their default address, but this seemed a bit complicated and dicey to me (not being a tech head).
I'd be interested to hear if anyone else has had this problem, or can tell me an easier solution.
I think my (rural) DSL crawls to about 2Mbits at best, so the thought of losing 1Mbit might be another deal breaker.
Of course they never told me any of this when I purchased the Airport box at the Apple store.

airport express/motorola cable modem/optusnet here..... all works fine. haven't measured but no speed hit that i'm aware of.
