Barrierboard ?

Anyone used this ,from a company in Sydney,looks like a limp membrane between 2 layers of plasterboard
Secondary Walls and Ceilings

Barrierboard comes in two sheet sizes 2700x1200 ($123.90 incl GST ex freight weighs 60kg) and 2400x1200 ($110.13 incl GST ex freight weighs 55kg) and is 32mm thick. It can either be directly applied to the wall with adhesive and screws or furring channels placed on the wall/ceiling, insulation fitted and then the Barrierboard installed (ceiling installation will likely require mounting with resilient mounts, insulation and Barrierboard to stop structural transmission of impact noise). Both methods are effective in blocking noise, the insulation will add an additional 4-5db improvement over the 5-9 db improvement you can expect to achieve with Barrierboard alone depending on the type of wall construction you have. The total wall depth loss would be 60mm. The total ceiling depth loss would be 78-85mm. Barrierboard is rebated and finishes exactly as per traditional plasterboards.


Acoustisorb 1, 25mm batt comes in rolls covering 18sqm and costs $140.07 incl GST ex freight and is excellent for sound absorption and reverberation control or for a newly formed wall cavity 90mm Soundbatt at $87.24 per 8.074sqm roll 580 wide or $64.65 per 5.986sqm roll 430 wide incl GST ex freight as it is thermally rated R2 and achieves superior sound transmission control in wall cavities. TSB4 Soundbatt 70mm either 45cm w x 16.2m l (29.16sqm pack) $177.33 or 61cm w x 16.2m l (19.76 sqm pack) $124.

yep we built our entire complex with the stuff.. we are working with our Audio guy and can supply Barrierboard and other acoustic materials.

hi Geoff, thanks 4 the reply,what is the stuff between the plaster ?i assume Barrier board is better than soundcheck ,mdf etc etc

It's sort of a rubbery membrane between the plaster. We worked out the equivalent coverage and db reduction was 3 x sheets of 16mm firechek or soundchek plaster so once we did the sums of labour for 3 x the labour cost, the choice was obvious! Add to that the barrierboard actually sounds good!! :) I'm sure Damien will chime in here to give you some more info as he's the one who knows all the details on it.
