"i know it was working when it got decommisioned recently - the ABC are replacing ALL of their consoles with new ssl consoles of one type or another

but i do not have the power leads ( its a simple wiring job to make them) but i havent actually powered it up .

it has no internal patch bay ( which we could set you up with 2nd hand parts to make up )

but assume nothing about its condition other then it was working and it looks fine to me .

Ok, there's not much info about these Neotek Esprit boards. So I have a few questions.

8 or 16 buss?? This is important to know. 8 buttons double up to 16 on some.

Manuals? Did you get them with the sale?

Seems there are 120 pin Elco connectors on some of these desks. Even without patchbay. They hide underneath on the bottom plate. Are they there? Would be great to see the back of the console. What are the connections in/out on the back for various things like aux's, stereo channel in's etc?

Power leads, why do they need to be made up? Are they hard wired? IEC into power supply? Confused.

What's the patchbay, 2nd hand parts idea you have?

Sorry Rick, I need more basic info before bidding. :)

P.S. If you've already answer these questions on the posts, just ignore me.

we are looking for a manual but its not looking good from the abc there are a few of these boards floating around Oz though so its do-able locally for sure BUT - assume there isnt one and if we get its a bonus

i will have another look at the buss system its looks a little wierd so it might be 16 BUT assume its 8
however it has direct outs on all the mic channels ( 16) and they have a level pot on each channel for that

yes its all elcos
there is nothing to see at the back of the console
the elco plates are underneath i will do a photo of that and add it to the pix thread but not today
the elco are just numbered no legends on them so there is nothing really to see

two power supplies with iec leads in
the power supplies take flying leads from the console to the supply on tag strips - not a elco plug or anything
so they need two sets of flying leads made up the length of however far away you put the power supply

but at the price this is going to sell for its not for me to power it up and and spend the time giving it a checkup
thats why the last ABC one resold for 17 k !

i am sure i can dig up enough patchbays to sort this console out really cheap but it just depends how far you want to take it
there are 13 x 120 elco so you can have the most extensive patchbay on the your block if you like - this is a serious console
but really i think in the modern world with protools with a 2nd hand console that is an expense best taken as and where needed

of course anybody is welcome to come on in and have a look at it

Actually original pots used in Neoteks were custom jobbies made by Noble. Mike doesn't carry many spares for any legacy consoles (of anything), only ordering what's needed for the Elan tabletops and the odd new Elite order. Others could possibly be dropped in but the concentric EQ pots are where it might get tricky.

I have this saved below for Esprit's, dunno about the accuracy as I've never seen one up close. I'm told there is some parts compatibility with the other Neotek broadcast consoles (Essence, Encore) and certainly Elites and Elans from looking at this list. As far as I know the broadcast line is from back when Martinsound owned Neotek.

EQ concentric 3 gang with pull-up switch.
PAN pots. (20k dual)
AUX 1-2, stereo eq, and others (100k dual)
AUX 3-8 pots. (100k single)
Balance/pan, (20k dual log/rev.log)
Mic-gain (5k reverse log)

Some other things worth knowing if this is an as-is sale would be the type of switches used throughout. The early Alps were by far the best switch ever used for Neoteks, but the chassis's are incompatible with the current C&K F series, so replacing any in chassis's would require a chassis change if they were indeed Alps.

Also faders? Duncan, Selmark, Alps, P&G, TKD?

Is one PSU a spare or is it a split powered console? Usually boards of this size run off one PS3 but maybe it's a broadcast thing.

hey brent thats helpful stuff
the faders are sellmark uk and dated 1995 which i guess gives a better sign to the age of the console
i cannot find a brand on the switches they are grey bodied with a brown top if that helps
both power supplies have the wiring ( cut ) still on the tags so maybe they were actually both used

lots of ABC ran redundent ( spare ) power supplies in my experience with some kind of a/b changeover if there was ever a problem

Yeah that sounds like an early/mid 90's console. If it has the green Nichicon Muse bipolar caps dotted around that's a big win.

The Sellmark branded faders are probably actually TKD CPA-7201's and 2CPA-7201's. Same as was used in Uptown automation systems.

Big win, easy to service and come up really nice.

The switches sound like ALPS. If they have the white hood over the spring mechanism and the blue plunger they are ALPS. Big win, a way better contact arrangement than Schadows/F series and the like so way better reliability and quieter switching.

There are aspects of the design of this console that are almost revolutionary. Certainly more than just pulling up the opamp cookbooks and stringing together some typical circuits. Depending on how this one is configured ( and they are all different ) There can be some interesting routing possibilities. Ie picking up subgroups into the top of the stereo channels for flexible grouping and downmixing.

They are a bitch to service. There are a number of cables that hook up to each channel strip and they never seem long enough to allow you to pull a channel without pulling a bunch either side. Because of the optioning, it can take a while to figure out whats what and the pcbs are fairly densely populated.
But they seem pretty reliable and it it safe to assuming that until at least recently it was maintained.

and Rob has a manual that i am sure for the right amount of coaxing and dollars he will help whoever buys the console
so - its looking good
