Hi there,

Guys ..I've just wanted to say that I have met Allan a couple of times and he's a really down to earth sort of Aussie bloke, a good musician and has a great sense of humour and NEVER says anything about his wealth.

I have spent a couple of days in the studio mixing a project and it has really nice rooms, nice gear and a great outlook.

To have a studio of this caliber on the Sunshine Coast is a total bonus for our area and allows smaller based studios (such as Red Berry) to have access to excellent tracking rooms.

I know some of you find Angus a bit opinionated, but the several times I have met him he is a stand-up guy and a great producer and multi instrumentalist.

At least we know this studio won't be going *South*(as in failing) too soon :-)
(and NO..I am not on the company payroll)

It must be nice working for a company that doesn't have to make any money.

I guess the press release is a little P.T.Barnum, but I say good on Allan for opening a big room when all the other's are closing down. I'd understand all the negativity if he had bought an existing big studio and was turning it into apartments.
If this place had been around 20 years ago I'd still be living on the Sunshine coast instead of having to come back to Melbourne to get work. I don't really see many big rooms being a part of the landscape for much longer without backing from someone who makes money elsewhere. Let's not overlook the fact that some of the best known major studios in the world were built with 'family money' that didn't come from music.

Wouldnt you still be eating the same amount of poo though? The only thing is with more bread it becomes a bit more bearable.

I think some people end up having to eat more poo than others, but thats a different subject.

No, not necessarily. If we use the formula P=T/B, where P is the total amount of poo in the sandwich, T is the total gross weight of the sandwich and B is the total mass of bread in the sandwich, it does reduce the amount of poo relative to the total mass of bread involved.

(and read your next email)

Hi there,

And that was news to me !

I have run my own studio for years and had put my hand up to work freelance in their facility.

I have done one job there for which I was not paid by the studio, but was paid by the client whose work originated in my studio anyway.

I am 52 years old and stand by my original dissertations abut the people who are associated with that studio.

Cheers

Ahh yes, makes sense if we are talking theories of relativity, rather than absolute values.

Before the strike started there was a senate tribunal meeting where the heads of the post had to attend to explain themselves. They all appeared except for the boss of the Post Graeme Johns. His department said they did not received the letter.
The strike is about job security as they are now transferring the full time work away from full timers and reducing numbers there to make more part time positions and many more daily on call casual positions.

+1 for the post from Astrovic ... that's me too ... in a way

Well done Angus. Well done Allan.

To me, the press release sounds just like ... a press release. If it was written for the Turtlerock forum audience, it would have been alot different ... but is was not written for us, was it?

There are many many fine musicians out there who for whatever reason are not in 'the industry'.

Good luck with the studio.

no-fi wrote:I think everyone is missing the point... this press release IS written with the facility's customer in mind - the guy who bankrolls it IS the main customer! All this won't be paid for by external bookings!! so in this case it makes sense for the people writing the press release to butter up that one customer as good as they can.

Why does the studio owner and biggest customer need a press release then?
He needs a PR company to persuade him to use his own studio?

If you didn't go to Woodstock, don't mention it. I didn't go to gazillions of amazing events so far in my life.

The guy has (by all accounts) put together a great facility in a beautiful spot.
That's all that needs to be said to sell it. And if you don't need to sell it to the outside world, no need for a press release.

We need more studios - so good luck Alan
But Aust Idol? I wouldn't be pushing that in my press release - or the Helipad - is that a tampon?

You and everyone else bagging the Helipad are way off the mark Chris. Talk about false assumptions. A Helipad is a vintage two position selectable 10 or 20 dB pad from a Helios console!

That's the only self help I ever needed.

Now I just wish I could learn how to turn a profit by telling others how to run thier lives. :)

Geez is'nt it enough for people to just be rich anymore, now they have to try to be cool as well.

And why not have a real Aussie photo of yourself in budgie smugglers with a beer in your hand, I think more people could actually relate to him then and actually increase his self help book sales. Just my opinion. Now if Allan starts appearing in such photos remember it was my idea and you read it here and I want my cut. Heh.

Nice studio though.
