Vocal booth acoustic products

Hi there,

I am thinking of incorporating a small vocal booth into my setup and was wondering which
acoustic foam products would be suitable ?

At the moment the walls for the proposed vocal booth are a combination of rendered cinderblock,
gyprock, wood and solid core door. (so wierd huh !)

I wondered if anyone could offer a solution that has worked for them.
I was thinking of covering all spaces in acoustic tiles...so it was entirely dead.
(this would also be used for voice overs)

Anyone recommend tiles from Sound Acoustics or Fonic ?
(SA' are cheap at the moment)
Should i put Acoustisorb under that ?

Any help greatly appreciated.

HI Nymo, I used 'Acoustiwool' sheets in my booth, laid in between the studs and the standard material screens over the top of it. It costs more but is awesome. After doing the whole booth I found it to be a little too dead so I coverd on wall of acoutsiwool with that bamboo fencing Bunnings sell. It reflects a little top back at you but still lets the bottom through. I find the foam squares never go low enough (frequency wise) and can make the room muddy, but can be good for fixing flutters. The other thing I dislike about the foam is it tends to perish and look not so good.
What are the dimensions? If it's pretty small don't overlook some sort of ventillation. They get stuffy real quick.

Hey John,
I was about to build a half dozen rockwool panels for my place.
Perhaps a couple of these could be part of your solution?? Give us a call if you want, might be some savings in a bulk order??

That would be my suggestion. You could easily make something that could be dismantled and reconfigured for other things when not in use.

I paid $190 for 4 sheets of 2400 x 1200 50mm Rigid Fibre glass from Plastamasta after purchasing 50mm foam tiles from Ultrafonic. I prefer the results from the Rigid fibreglass.
You would need to contact plastamasta for the full sound absorbtion specs re Frequencies. I find the Rigid Fibreglass has better absorbtion properties and definitely absorb the lows better then tiles. Ultrafonic use the 50mm Rigid Fibreglass in all there expensive acoustic treatments as do other Acoustic Treatment specialists. 4 sheets of 50mm Rigid Fibreglass works out far cheaper in coverage and has better absorbtion properties then the 50mm tiles. You just need to knock up a frame and by some heshian from spotlight, or cloth of choice to cover the rigid fibreglass panels. Just remember the material covering needs to be an open weave fabric.

Hi there,

Thanx for the info guys (I've been in Tassy for a week!)

The width is ultra narrow...less than 90cm (just enough to squeeze into) so I'm doing the walls
in 40mm foam which will take care of 500hz up and then a couple of Phonic panels which should take care of 200hz to 400hz. Hope fully i won't need to put any corner traps in...but will see when I test this configuration.

The idea is to have a totally dead space for voice overs etc.
