We also have a 176 here, a Cranesong STC-8, an LA-2A, 1176 and MC77 as well as a GML eq which is just beautiful. We run the tracks out of Tools into either the 1064's or Chandler EMI TG, then through whatever comps/eq's and print the tracks back into the Tools session.

We're processing the vocals through the Retro 176 (about 2db reduction) --> Avedis E27 EQ --> Shadow Hills Mono Opto 500 (about 3db reduction) --> STA Level (about 20db reduction). It just glues the vocal in place, unbelievably transparent compression and heaps of mojo.

I'm producing an album for a singer/songwriter... along the lines of Brooke Fraser/Sarah McLachlan. I recorded it over quite a long period (no money) and it's all being finished off this week. Definitely check out Loop. I've done a bunch of stuff here. I come primarily because of Kieren, the engineer, but the room sounds good and their recent gear lust is a very cool addition.

Sounding really good if I do say so. Mastering with Rick in a few weeks and I'll be releasing it on iTunes on March 7th.

Ah great! I met Kieren once or twice when i went through with a Uni class a few years ago, no way he would remember who i was though. I spent a bit of time in one of the other rooms there with Lee, who's now down the street at Crank.

The first time i ever did a session outside of Uni was at Loop about 2-3 years ago - also the first time i had to run a session by myself for paying clients (who weren't even mine, was a fill in gig for another guy). It didnt go so well... the only positive thing i took away from it was walking out and thinking 'Man, i just plugged a U87 into a Neve preamp...AWESOME!"
