14v & 6.3v Lamp Availability

Hi All,

Just chasing a few lamps that I have had no luck in finding - thought someone might have some ideas here.

Firstly a 14v 80ma lamp for behind the meter on an Avalon 737 VU and secondly a 6.3v (roughly 80ma too I guess) lamp for the pilot light on a UA comp. Both are mini bayonet bulbs. RS had 6v, but didn't have any in stock here in Brisbane. I've tried the regular Jaycar, DSE, Wes, RS, Altronics/Delsound to no avail.... seem to be the unique voltages that aren't a multiple of 12 which is the main problem....

First place I thought of was Evatco in Qld - they do 6.3V bulbs here: http://www.evatco.com.au/miscparts.htm#lamps

These guys are more guitar amps and valve radios, so they're pretty good for this kind of stuff. In fact, they're really nice people and super easy to deal with (mum and dad shop).

Can't help you with 14v, I'm afraid. But if you're contacting evatco, you might try asking them and they may be able to point you in the right direction/order some in for you.

PJ White in Adelaide have them, but you need to spend a min of $10

I contacted Evatco to make sure the bulbs I wanted were correct but need some verification here....

I have a UA6176 with a blown pilot light ( 1819 28V 40mA CM ) as well as a UA LA-610 ( 1847 6.3V 150mA CML )....why would these bulbs be different as I would think that they'd be identical for both units.

Is the 6.3volt .15 MBC (bayonet) type from Evatco compatable? Obviously I can source correct ones elsewhere on the 'net but thought I'd try these guys first.

different models different voltage lamps...all down to design considerations

Pretty sure you could use a car lamp instead of a 14V if you can find one the right size/shape/brightness. Older cars at least had pretty wild voltage fluctuations so they should take 14 instead of 12.

Evatco came back to me and can supply a 6.3 but not the 14v. They did however suggest two other places - WES & RS Components. I'll check them out and get back to you. I may also head down to my local wrecking.....I mean car recycling yard.

how come no one ever seems to think..."hey, i'll phone the distributer for this product and ask for a replacement lamp" ?

Umm, I thought I was? As I said, if you can find one the right size/shape/brightness.. Like the little ones that make the dash board glow etc, not a bloody headlight.

HA...Kurt, I knew which bulbs you were talking about ;-)

Rob, I didn't think to contact them. I've been a tad frustrated with distributors over the last three weeks. The power harness on my 002R has been playing silly games - the unit swtiches on but continues to make a clicking sound and isn't recognised by PT.

I did some research online and found that it's a known issue with units whose serial # ends with a letter between A & G. So three weeks of phone calls and emails to Avid to ask for my free replacement harness and after finally talking to someone who knows about it I get told "yeh, we may be able to get you one out in about 2 weeks"....from Melbourne!
