It is with a little sadness that I offer up for sale my M-700 mixing console for sale. Some of you will remember this as being the console at Atlantis Audio in Melbourne, where I bought it from David McCluney. I bought it in 2006.
The reason for selling is that my vocal booth got flooded in the hailstorms a few weeks back and it seeped throught the door and under the walls soaking the carpets in my control room. None of my gear got wet thankfully, but the room has to be emptied to recarpet. I'm hardly doing any mixing, 90% of my income is coming from writing and has been for the last year, so I've only been using the console for monitoring and routing, and most of my stuff is being mixed by bigger names who are better than me at it :D.. It is a biiig console, so once I pull it apart to move it out I really don't want to put it together again just for a monitoring system. So, if someone in Melbourne is interested in it, I will part with it, albeit with a fair bit of regret. I've been working overseas since the hailstorm and only got back 2 days ago, so just getting around to posting it now. So, some details are:
-TASCAM M-700 Inline (2 faders per channel) console
- 40 channel, 80 input on mixdown. 32 assign Busses on each channel
- Quad buss, can be used as stereo only or quad or can be setup as 2 independent stereo busses. 2 x stereo VU for 2 busses, led metering on each channel.
- 4 band EQ, all sweepable. LMF and HMF have sweepable Q, LF and HF have high Q switch. HPF on all channels. All eq switchable to channel or monitor path.
- 2 stereo and 8 mono sends, all switchable to channel or monitor path.
- 3 seperate speaker feeds.
- 3 modes - playback, rec and mix. You can also run in combined modes like mix/rec.
- 4 stereo 2 track returns, to external stereo source returns all selectable to speaker feeds via switching in master section.
- 8 x 80 way mini TRS patchbays.
- 3 group cuts slectable on each channel, so you can group a bunch of channels to say group A, and cut them all with a switch on the master section.
- Talkback to cues, slate. Has an oscillator etc.
- Mic pres are transformerless, have gain, pad and phase reverse. I never used the pres so can't comment. For those who know Slipperman, he said he was amazed by the overall quality of the desk and did some great recording on the same model using the console pres only.
- Dimensions - 2.3m wide with righthand patchbay. 1.2 deep and 1.2 high.
meter bridge is big enough for speakers and monitors.

Things to mention...
- bottom faders have no legending on them. They were that way when I got it. It has a master flip button so I used to flip the desk in mix mode and the tracks would come up on the small faders which have legending on them.
- It also has no patchcords, didn't come with any. I've been borrowing them from the other rooms here but have to give them back. No looms, I had to make custom ones for my outboard racks and will still be using them. The patchbay is all D-subs so if you can solder it's not too hard to make them up. I did, so anyone can.
- A few channels have the odd sticky pot/switch but nothing major.
- All channels are modular so you can swap them around while you clean a switch on one etc.

Things I've done -
- All the faders were dissasembled and cleaned when i got it. The entire master section was recapped 3 years ago. The entire power supply was recapped 4 years ago. This was a lot of work. Channels I only did 2 and couldn't hear a difference so I went no further.
- Cheeks were repainted, and all meter covers were buffed to remove any scratches. They look like new.Metal work was touched up and I still have a can of paint in the right colour for touch ups.

What else..hmmm..eq is good, no Neve but useable. The desk is fully balanced all the way, channels, sends, even inserts. Has more routing possibilities than you can ever think of. Very similar layout to early SSL 4000 minus some bells and whistles, in fact this was Tascams shall we say 'homage' to that desk. This desk did a lot of indie hits at Atlantis, the same model desk was used for a few Hoodoo Gurus albums. I've mixed a bunch of stuff on it and it's always been great.
I would suggest only Melbourne people enquire as it would cost more to freight it than I want for it. It is way heavy, you will need a truck or big trailer to move it, along with a few friends. We needed 4 guys and a few dolly trolleys to get it out of Atlantis.
The price I want? $2000 firm. No offers, no Iced Vovos. That's way less than what I've spent on it and I got it cheap. Hopefully it will serve someone else as well as it served me. My studio is in South Melbourne and I can setup something temporarily to check it out so feel free to drop by and have a look, bring some wavs and we can run them up some channels and have a listen. Beware my room smells a bit at the moment, so maybe bring a nose peg. PM me here and we can sort something just about anytime in the next 2 weeks. EDIT - yes that's me on GS. All inputs are via the patchbay on D-Subs, even the line inputs. You need D-sub (Ta@#$% DB25 wiring standard) to whatever your gear connections are. Easy and much cheaper to solder yourslef than buy. The insert send and receive are on the patchbay, so you patch them to your outboard on the patchbay as well. Inserts are switchable post and pre EQ.

hey andy... this is very sad to hear, the work you put into it looked amazing.

if anyone needs to know any more about the history of the console, either myself or david (atlantis) will be happy to tell you more. but as andy describes, it is a VERY well specced console, not your 'typical' Ta@#$% by any stretch.

oh... one other thing i'm not even sure andy knows this.... but before we had the fader panels powder-coated, i scanned the legending so that it could be screenprinted or etched back on down the track. i'll dig the files out and send them to you.

the price is kinda ridiculous.... this was a $120,000 console in 1989. especially considering the work andy has done. dude, if i hadn't just bought myles' TAC... ok, it's too big for me, but will be a BARGAIN for someone.

Hey Wez, yeah a bit sad, bit like losing a production partner but it's a chance to strip the rooms down and start fresh. Glad to say it's not a money issue, hence the cheap sale price. Just way busy writing so back to a muso's writing den rather than a mix room. I'm also going to be based in Sydney 2 days a week so going to add a portable rig on a MBP. I had the fader plates stripped back to silver and sealed with car clearcoat, so they would be easy to screen print the legend back on.
