Hi Guys,

I'm selling an Avalon U5 to put towards a new Rupert Neve Designs Portico II.

Nothing wrong with it. I bought it off Kristian Anderson and now I don't think I'll need it as I'll use the Portico II for my DI duties.

Used minimally in a smoke free project studio.

$600 inc GST. Freight excluded.

EDIT: Added some photo's and last call before I go to ebay for a higher Price. (since everyone's been telling me it's a very good price : )

Portico II

Postby DwaneHollands » Tue Mar 23, 2010 1:24 pm

Well it's 6-8 weeks away apparently.

I'm getting it through Turramurra music. I always deal with Steve Adderly. Takes care of me. But everyone has to wait. I'm not sure if there's a soul who's got one world wide yet....Other than Rupert himself. lol.

EDIT: Sorry I thought you asked "Where". You asked "When". My bad. I'm in no way affiliated with Turramusic. Just buy most my gear there.

Ha ha. I missed your catty comment Mike! I thought you might have got in trouble so I didn't ask you to repeat. lol.

I was going to buy a Canon 7D camera and some expensive lenses, but I knew it would just split my interest between video and music/mixing. I figured I've invested so much already I should keep with the same field.

But what to do with 4.5K? I figured, why not just get the latest from Rupert Neve. Everyone scrambles for his stuff on the second hand market. Imagine what he's creating now.

I'm predominantly wanting to use this for mixing/processing. Of course I'll record my mics through it 99-100 percent of the time...

I'm just hoping I can hear a difference with this thing...I might be too amateur to tell the difference.

P.S. I was a little bit cut that I missed out on that MOTU 828MkII that you snapped up! lol. I was too late! ha ha.

No beef.

I was mistaken. I thought Dwane had bought this earlier off this forum, then selling it for an inflated price. (Still $600, is rather cheap)

Hence, my initial, and further outrage. lol.

Sorry for any confusion.
Regards
Mike

He did buy it on the forum... from me.

Unfortunately the drugs make my memory a little foggy and I can't remember what I sold it for... but $600 sounds about right.

Dwane's a good guy... he's not ripping anyone off.

$600 is a good price - they are solidly built, clean and totally pro from where i stand.
All the output options are a bonus although still not sure about some of the preset eqs but that's really small change - I like mine a lot and certainly wouldn't sell it for $600.

Yeah I'll probably end up having to keep it I think. It's currently the best outboard I got. Lol. If it doesn't sell I might try and source the rack ear kit and mount it in one of the racks I'm building.

I would'nt worry Dwayne it's always good to have options, you'll probably find yourself using the Avalon as well if you still have it.

$650 is a good result. These were being offered new for $700 around 18 months ago (give or take) on mixmasters during a special promotion they had at the time. Good to see you got what you wanted for it.

Yeah man, I was pretty happy to get that offer. Obviously, ebay and paypal take a nice little chunk out of it ; ) But all and all I'm pretty happy to get what I wanted.

Happy to get most of what I just spent on an SSL clone buss compressor!
