Opinions on JLM MAC Rack kit please.

Hey folks, just looking for some opinions WRT the JLM kit for a MAC Rack. I'm mainly interested in how it stands up sonically, but also whether or not I could actually put the thing together (I'd like to). I've soldered plenty of cables in my time, but never actually "built" anything electronical-like.

I realize if I'm going to take this on at all that I'll need to be very careful and such, and it will most likely be a slow process, but I suppose my real question is: how easy is something like this to ruin due to ineptitude?

In short: is this a good comp/lim for around a thousand bucks, and how clueless does one have to be to end up costing oneself beaucoup bucks in wrecked parts?

Maybe you could go down to jaycar and buy a few 15 buck kits and practice soldering to pcb, then when you're confident get the JLM kit. With a little care and patience it's unlikely that you could do anything to render your kit completely useless!

Where in Sydney are you?

I've built a MAC kit and they are not so hard, really. If you want to order the kit and then have someone watch over you a bit while you make it, I'm sure there are some DIYers on this forum who might lend a hand.

Sonically, the MAC is a modern opto compressor. Its a slower more gentle compression than say a brickwall limiter. I use opto compression on vox and some guitars, but not on drums, etc
