seriously i know ben and wish him well
but if he can cut a m7 and a kk47 in half sonically, emotionally or physcially
and the create the best of both , he is so far ahead of the rest of the known world
you better buy everything he makes right now , because he wont stay with just pro audio for too much longer !

Hi All,

Don't think i get the mobile phone comment but anyhow.

What Angus is trying to say is actually correct. The K7 is mechanically a cross between a K47 and an M7. The M7 as many of you would know is a glued capsule. Once the metal is drilled and cut, the diaphragm is then glued to the brass outer ring.

The main problem with this is that any anomally in the amount of glue used then becomes refferential tonally. The K47 was neumann's answer to rectify this problem, rather than glueing, the K47 takes the same basic hole depth and patterning to which the diapragm is now screwed and clamped between 2 perfectly lapped surfaces hence dramatically reducing errors.

When neumann changed from glue to screw, they also changed the diametric patterning of the outer blind holes, the K7 rather than adhering to the k47 specs is more closely partnered to the M7 diametrically as far as the blind and through holes are concerned.

Most of you haven't heard this capsule, you should reserve judgement until you do as i believe it is the best sounding k47/m7 capsule currently available and if you want to try it and don't agree then i'll pay for the return shipping and refunds.

not questioning wether you made a great capsule !

just curious that the result is now getting marketed as " halfway between the m7 and kk47 !"

if you moved the spacing outer blind holes ( err just the one ring or the 2nd inside as well ) into line with the early m7
does that actually make the physical difference between a m7 and kk47 half ..?
or does it make the tonal difference half ..? .. or does it just make it a fine hybrid
its the latter me thinks

i spend all my days worrying about the difference in tone in really really small amounts

the difference we are talking about here between a kk47 and an m7 despite the internet facts
...... well its not worth cutting in half as a sonic thing to market as a fact
maybe a emotional thing sure ..
who doesnt want the best of both worlds ?

but really ...halfway between..?

the mobile phone comment is justs a heads up to where the real money might be found now you know how to build a business that does amazing things really well

oh and i am sure you understand why i dont want the klaus pit confused with the turtlerock one :)

it always looks like your marketing for Ben but if your not your not

i am just getting gritty on everything that sounds like a cross between ( x... and y) at the moment , this is just another example

the internet is so powerful with this stuff that people lose sleep over which version capsule to put in their microphone that they havent heard yet on a singer they dont know yet etc etc
its crazy

but i understand the need to back your own beliefs and efforts

I have an Arabella and a James 60 (larger diamteter than the James 50).

They sound so wonderful to me.

The James sounds so creamy.

Only got the Arabella a couple of weeks ago and havent had a good chance at using it.

But they sound really good to me.

Congrats to Ben for making a very fine product. I have never heard or seen one of your mics Ben but if the capsules are sonically great as we are led to believe in your new capsule, then obviously a lot of passion, research and dam hard work has gone into the results you are getting. I will be checking one out ASAP, and I hope the rewards are a very profitable business for you.
I can vouch for Rick regarding the "other" mic forum mentioned....i have been on the receiving end of the moderators agro style for the most innocent of assumptions... and Ricks first visit there was treated to a very rude verbally abusive reception............i don't bother visiting any more.

I don't market Ben's mics but I tell everyone I can how great they are and how very cheap (price only) they are. I've paid big money for mics that don't have nice tonal qualities like some of Ben's mic eg. Arabella.

BTW - you should get the new K7 capsule in your Arabella for that added 'mojo'.


I'm not sure I just lent it to Andrew Crawford who bought most of my gear and is their main recording guy. But he used it heaps as his 251 died and was getting fixed at the time.
The Arabella used is an older model (older version K7), still that purple/burgundy colour and has the Telefunken EK14 steel tube.
