In a blind listening test if the CS-1 sounds better than his Mic he will give it to me.

ok, this is going to be fun... i'm looking forward to watching this unfold, as you work out some way of defining "sounds better".

not to mention the bleeding obvious... that any mic can sound great with the right source/pre/lunar phase, and crap with the wrong one.

and don't get me started on "blind" listening test methodologies...

so i guess you'll probably end up with some sort of voting system... hey it works for Idol.

Ben, that's a very generous offer. I would , however, suggest that win, lose or draw you donate your mic to an online ebay auction with all winnings going to the westmead childrens hospital. I was never in this for any other reason than to buy a nice mic. I'm sure your mic is also very nice and you have a great marketing opportunity here. If it sounds as good as you say then I'll bid for it anyway.

What sounds good to some might not to others. How to define better is too grey an area.

I think that is a super idea, but how about possibly choosing a hospital or an organisation that DOESN'T get a lot of donations - both Westmead Childrens Hospital and The Childrens Hospital Randwick get LOTS of donations through their own fundraising and many other societies. Not that I begrudge them at all, I'm just opening the idea to choosing other valuable services and organisations that have less funding available..
I've worked in healthcare for over 22yrs and it always surprises me that people choose to donate to the hospitals that get the most cash from fundraising in the first place! There are other institutions that provide the same healthcare but do not get the same level of donation support that alot of other hospitals get.
Why not choose an organisation that helps ALL hospitals (Breast Cancer Foundation, Jane McGrath Foundation, Red Cross, Parkinsons/Alzheimers research, Garvan Institute - the list could go on for miles)
Gosh, the busy Intensive Care Unit I work in needs a new portable Ultrasound/Echocardiography machine (I use these machines also), but we dont have the money to buy one - yet we are the busiest ICU in the STATE!
Maybe we can look at a few different options.

But it has a happy ending, she is in school and very well now. All up she has had 12 surgeries in the USA.

Great idea for the charity thing, but i do agree that the funds should go to an orginisation that doesn't have alot of dough like hearts of hope or the many others that are around to help the littleys.

Hey Rob, how are you going.

Who knows how we will judge it, quite frankly, who cares. It'll be a scream no matter what happens. I'm just sticking my bib in for a bit of fun and by the looks of things, a great cause too. Either way it'll cost me a mic and a heap of laughs.

In all seriousness though, we could just do a blind test between 4 different mics, each recording 4 different sources and each person present could just state which was their favourite in each instance on a piece of paper, tally the scores, and see how it ends up.

different mics...different outputs...different sweet spots for the preamp ....... it's all relative to something.
I have followed the announcement and details of the CS-1 with great interest and think it would be a great mic but really , i know diddly squat about mics from a tech design point of view. They say the capsule is as good as the original brass ring CK12 etc,etc...... any one seriously interested should know all the details by now.

My nick name given to me by my brother was Bees Knees... a bit of a stir referring to the miniscule size of my biceps compared to his, so i dont warm to the name. Then there is the Bees Knees Beer.......i'd rather have a Coopers Dark Ale or Vintage any day.
I will endeavor to overcome my obvious prejudice and check out the Bees Knees mic. What i'm after is a go to vox mic that has depth, presence, rich transparent mids, an open but full sound........ whatever all these adjectives really mean???
all i know is it can be hit and miss getting the vox sound that stands out as exceptional....... i'm not there yet and will not be satisfied as an engineer until i can regularly achieve exceptional vox recordings.

By the way ... Happy New Year..... It's gunna be a good one.

But yeah I agree with Rob also, mics are a very subjective thing, though still at the last shootout Petes elux 251 was clear winner on the day for vox without doubt, everyone just went quiet, sort of looked at each other and said mmmmmmmm thats the one.

May the best mic win. Hmmmmm had to say it, heh.

It's been a while but finally these are slowly being shipped. As I'm numbers 90 & 91 i'd say i'm still at least 6 - 8 weeks away. The early adopters have been posting some clips if anyone is interested. They have been receiving very positive feedback.

Oliver has confirmed that all mics in the 1st 100 batch will be delivered around 4th July. I'm numbers 90 & 91 so I'm guessing later rather than sooner. Last count I think he was shipping the 70's. I've never waited for anything this long before.

By all accounts they are getting excellent reviews. I'll be sure to drop them in for an evaluation at your convenience.

Crazy me also ordered the new CS-4 from them as well.

Hey Ben - what mic are you going to put up against the CS-1?

I don't know but hey, looks like i have craploads of time to figure it out.

You know as a manufacturer, I get customers that are really distraught if they have to wait 6 weeks for a mic let alone 76 weeks.

Maybe i am in the wrong end of the biz. I should get rid of all the staff and make 1 mic a month and just quadruple the price. (tongue in cheek).

On a serious not though, i hope the mic arrives soon before we all get too old to hear it..........
