Anyone had some Gefell M300's stolen??

Postby Sammas » Fri Jun 04, 2010 2:24 am

I just purchased a pair second hand and after I gave them
a run through their paces (wicked sounding mics!), I gave them
a closer inspection. One of the mics has it's serial number scratched
off.

Gasp! What does one do in such a situation?

I can still make out the serial number just, as it is laser etched into
the base. The serials of both mics are quite close to each other. Perhaps
it was someones attempt at passing them off as a matched pair? Or
perhaps just purely coincidental? Maybe the mic was dropped?

Which brings me to my second question. One has a slightly lower output
and marginally greater noise than the other. It is enough to affect a
stereo recording without further adjustments, and the noise I'm hearing
is quite a bit bass heavier. Is this natural on a pair of modern production
mics that aren't matched?

If it isn't, I suspect they need a service... so the third question is, does
anyone know where I could get them serviced?

in all my days on the planet I have never heard of an believable
reason to remove a serial number from any musical device!
It can only mean one thing

where that puts you is often in the unkown
and obviously if your asking questions like this publically
you understand

but hey there is not much to do , but fret a bit
and get on with life

I cannot recommend anyone in Sydney to service these
maybe mr sneezby does them up north but I dunno

I have a bunch of mics like that that I just service myself

and of coarse geffel(mg) are very helpful if you land the correct email address!

yeah, I suspect it was mostly wishful thinking on my behalf. I
just find it obscure that only has has been scratched off...

But anyway, I'll drop Mr Sneezby a line. If anyone comes
across a person that is missing a pair of M300's and was smart
enough to record the serial numbers, please put them in contact
with me as I may have stumbled on thing that is rightfully theirs.
