WTB: be!@#$%^& ADA8000

I think I want a be!@#$%^& ADA8000 as a cheapo ADAT expander to get more channels into my MotU...

If you anyone has one kicking around?

There's about half a dozen on ebay new for a bit less then that. I'll probably grab one in the next few days / by the weekend.

Rusty, the ADA8000 is a great ADAT out unit, but the preamps on the ins are nothing special (and bear in mind that even line level inputs go through the pres).

Do you have outboard pres? If all you need is line level to ADAT, for around $500 you can get a Swissonic AD24 that will do that job better (confession - I have one for sale) and will be a "keeper" rather than something you will outgrow.

Problem is, someones stolen all the inputs on my soundcard. And most of the outputs come to think of it.

Though luckily I have a spare pair of ADAT i/o's... so my plan is:

MotU ADAT Out -> be!@#$%^& ADA8000 -> Kurzweil KSP8 Analog In
Kurzweil KSP8 Analog Out -> be!@#$%^& ADA8000 -> MotU ADAT In

So basically would use the ADA8000 as glorifed analogue/adat converter. Seems like a good idea to me... but then again, so are a lot of bad things.

So you will use the ADA8000 as a DA/AD interface for 8 FX send/returns to the Kurzweil - I can see that.

The problem is those ADA8000 inputs (I have an ADA8000 BTW - its not just gossip). The good news is that with a little judicious soldering you can bypass them and pretty much plug your line level inputs into the AD converter. There's one method that it very easy indeed, and another that it better by lots trickier - a web search will quickly find both options.

If you are prepared to do this, then the ADA8000 is a good option that can punch above its weight. If not, I'd really suggest going for something more along the lines of an RME ADI8 for what you want to achieve. You do not want the converter to be the weak link in your chain.

Where are you based? I could let you try out my ADA8000 perhaps to see if you are happy with its performance before you buy.

Just watched the temperature/power on those things as they're known to cook. Mine burnt out within a year and it's a known issue.

Yeah this problem is widely reported. I think I got lucky with mine, it's never cooked and I've had it 3 years or so...
