New Mic - They're Finally Here -

Yeh, it's a "long wait". Many apprenticies have been sent shopping to get those and came back empty handed. :-)

All 300 CS-1's have been sold. There's only a few CS-4's left in the first batch. They only promise to make 200 of these and no more than 300. I guess, based on these sales, Oliver is either really good at what he does or really good at marketing. Time will tell.

Considering he makes the BV8 transformer for Wagner and transformers for Bock, Wunder & Telefunken USA My guess is he's really good at what he does.

I'm looking forward to finally having our listening session. You still up for it Rick?

..........when i was a kid ( being left handed) my dad sent me on a hunt for the left handed hammer......much to the amusement of my older brother and the other workers on the building site.

......... when i was at my mates studio I asked a client to go to our tape room and get a new reel of 24 track two inch tape. When he handed it to me i told him it was two inch 16 track and sent him back to find the two inch 24 track tape stock. Let him rummage around for 5 min before putting him out of his misery :).......

i was going to say yeah if my studio is finished in time ... but i am sure to win that race right ? :0

then i remembered and even checked that i didnt agree to host the shoot out anyway , so i am off the hook !

i dont now or havent ever questioned the quality of their parts or his ability to make a great mic or his partners ability to tell a good one from a great one .

i just marvel at the power of the internet ..

and also note if you cannot get 100 mics out the door in a year and a half ,

either something is wrong ( which i doubt )

or you dont actually like making the same thing every day !

i will go for the latter , i dont like doing the same thing every day either .
the ways i will find other things to do instead of the mundane amazes me

i had a long chat to Gunter the other night , my feeling from that conversation is the wagner u47 line is over for not just lack of nos parts but its also because

"well its time to do something else now , there is no challenge doing the same thing every day "

designing ( or redesigning as is often the case ) something great is one thing and not to be shrugged off

but being a solder jockey and keeping QC at 100 % takes a whole other mindset , most techs i know a good for a few pieces then they hand it over to somebody who is enjoying themselves !

this is the reason , i stepped off the idea of having my own line of products that i have been developing for years.
i dont actually want to MAKE them !

We humans like a challenge, but when the challenge is met, are easily bored and move on to the next thing that will wake us up....so self discipline and (moderate) character development and the need to survive financially has to kick in for us to have any staying power.

......as for me, i think i'll just call myself an animal and go for the short term thrill and the "fight-or-flight response" :)

Of course you can always design stuff and license someone else to make it.

.....and because the devil is in the detail and the sum of ite parts etc etc, and not just the design, with licensing someone else to make it, quality controll goes just that bit out the window somewhat, as a profit needs to be maximised, the gains of superiour workmanship and quality of the product are lost....so back to where we started>

oh my place is crammed with unbelievably well built protoypes of exotic audio gear that will never go into full production
and i have long since handed over the work to smarter people then me to get done right .
mostly though its just economics - you cannot make money of what i come up with - just music


i even have a "sigh" ....microphone that i am never going to get around to making money off .


i am working with some swiss people as well with clever stuff you will see soon enough

but the bottom line is the dream is to have your "own" stuff right..?
the reality is making it day in day out takes all the fun out of idea

i am sure there are people aplenty on this site that understand


build a better mouse trap and the world will beat a path to your door
get the numbers or the delivery timing wrong and the bank will knocking on you door to take the door back !

yeah i got done as a 1st year, got sent to go buy a batten stretcher and a long weight as well as a box of paslode nails and gassers. the guy at the fastener shop thought it hilarious to keep me there while he rang up about the long weight, turns out he was talking to my boss and i couldnt understand why he kept on saying "how long, 15, 20 minutes?". I just let him know that i needed it asap otherwise the boss was gonna chuck a shitfit hahah.

Ok how's this for a practical joke i was on the receiving end of:...... true story this one.
In the mid 70's, stupid long haired hippie that i was, I hitched from Strahan to Hobart and got picked up by a car load of timber workers. They drove like they had rabies and began talking like i was a dead man, then turned off the road onto a track ...i had visions of Deliverance flashing through my mind. EventualytThey stoped at a shed at the end of the track....lots of utes were parked there and i was freaking out but trying not to show it. Doing a runner was death because this was the south west wilderness. They asked me to go with them into the shed...i replied that i was ok in the car.....they insisted.....i thought i was dead......went with them and when i walked inside the room went quiet.....all eyes on me.......long hair ....... head band.....jeans cut up as shorts.......mutli coulered belt tied to the side.... tie dyed dope leaf tea shirt ........ the room stunk of beer and sweat......a big bloke walked up, grabbed my arm and took me to the bar and bought me a beer....trying not to shake too obviously i raised the elbow and had a swig as the whole place erupted in fits of laughter. Obviously, they all thought it was the funnyest thing that had happened for the week but i took a while to calm down ..... the beer helped.
Later they drove me out of the hills and droped me off at Ouse where i joined my two brothers who had earlier left me behind. Bastards!

I hope you mean reserved, I (think) I have one in the final batch, but I guess they're going a little slower then expected.

Oliver called me last week to let me know that my stereo pair in next on his list. Most of the singles up to 100 have been sent and he only has a few stereo pair left in the first batch. He said he would be back in touch this week to organise shipping. Fingers crossed.

It's now been 20 months since I placed the order. Lucky I'm a patient man.

Hi ALL, Mannnn these guys are slow... We have shipped over 1600 mics in the last 20 months (not trying to boast or anything) but we are just Kangaroo eating hill billy red necks that live in the middle of whoop whoop. I'm still wanting to do the shootout charity thing. I do hope your mic comes soon peter; you must be getiing itchy fingers by now.

Funny thing is, if a customer orders a stereo mic, i don't even have the headgrills made. I make the dual head grill and still have the mic out in 8 weeks.

This has to be the best product marketing i have ever seen and realistically marketing is all it is. I saw pictures of the finished metalwork nearly 2 years ago.

i dont think i have it myself so i dont want to really throw stones, i just wanted to check out the the lucas mic 2 years ago to see if i was interested
at least now i know it doesnt matter how good it is - i am not ever getting one - not interested


i was looking at one of your tribute mics the other day ( mick wordleys maybe its a different model i dunno )
cosmetically its nice enough but not for me either... for the next models i reckon they need to go on a 2 year stay at a swiss ladies finishing college
to give it the final touch of class and refinement that only time in exclusive company can bring .
oh and i reckon she can loose a few pounds off her bum too - man they are heavy mics ... too heavy !

didnt listen to it of coarse but you have the good word on the street world over so i am sure its the goods

Hi Rick, that T1 that you saw with mick has been around the world and then some, it has been demo'd in at least 30 studio's and that i feel may be why you think it needs a spell with the swiss; it is not a new mic.

The mics we make are indeed heavy but i feel that they need to be. Structual integrity is so much more integral to overall sonics than people choose to give credit for. I have made at least 5 revisions on the design to aid in the diet but all were inadequate sonically even though the circuit never changed.

but you do have to convince me there is a mic stand on the market at a sane price
that can hold your mics up in the air in a safe manner year in year out

Thanks sounds like a challenge that i might have to take you up on. Our CNC's here could definitely make an amazing mic stand and we could probably Keep the prices fair too. What type of target price would you deem fair? Sorry if it is a blanket question but i have been out of the GMI scene as far as stands go for a few years now.
