church, theatre, or cinema converted in a studio?

I am just wondering if anyone knows of a church cinema or theatre in australia that is converted into a studio.

I was thinking that something like that would give the most natural sounding reverbs to drums, and you control the reverb by using tapistries and carpets just have some speakers at one end, a mic at the other end........ and just recod a real hall verb etc and just the vibe of recording in a peice of history like that.......


I dont know I think it works. I can see why people wouldnt be a fan though....

Can't think of any off hand in aus, but Sylvia Shivy-Massey has her studio set up in an old theatre in Weed.

Thanks mark, look like a cool studio....... purely from an aussie point of veiw pity that aussie bands felt they had to go there to get a good sound.....

Isnt it great how aussie bands that want aussies to buy their cds, and have a large aussie base wont support the local economy which they largely want the support from themselves.

Well, that Tool credit of hers would certainly get her a lot of work. I wouldn't be too hard on Cog, they said that the $$$$$ worked out the same whether they did it over here or over there, so I might have done the same in their position.

Having said that, I'm not really that impressed with the overall sonics of the album.... but maybe it was a dodgy mastering job. Maybe Cog should've got Forrester Savell who did the Karnivool record. Now that album sounded pretty slick.

There is a guy up in Castlemaine for those in Vic who has converted an old brick church into a teaching studio/recording area. Not a "real" studio but a nice space.
