Re: Byer motel
Because of the title I didn't guess what this post was about and hence missed it. I've been checking out ways of making your own ribbons for the past couple of months ever since I re-tensioned some ribbons in cheap CAD Chinese ribbons and was so impressed by the results.
I've checked out the $20 sheets of ribbon material on ebay but thought it might be junk- good to hear it's not too bad.
Have also been experimenting with home crimping but a lot less success with that so far. It's pretty frustrating stuff! Would be very interested if anyone can source a useable crimper.

SSS made great mics in their day. Can't say I've heard that mic
But I have a pair of large SSS ribbons which are amazing. A good buy
I'd say.

Re: Byer motel
Yeah I cant wait to give it a go!! it should be quite unique because of the short ribbon motor I don't want to speculate too much because the guy I bought it from did'nt even know if it worked! so I might be in for some repair duties
BTW How is the studio going? it looked great!the other night with all of that obscure vintage gear you've got in there! I love it

Re: Byer motel
Ok so here it is my $51.00 Ebay win!
The Steanes sound systems ellipsoid arrived today with a broken Ribbon
Not to let that spoil my fun I performed a quick repair operation using foil from a chocolate wrapper and the aid of a beer to steady my hands
Read see and hear more at the link below.
Enjoy

Re: Byer motel
I was down at my Nans this arvy and I thought I would bring home some of my late pops nice old port and other fine liqour stash, I looked at this one and couldn't quite remember why the name on the back rang a bell.
I'll think of you all as i enjoy a drop or two of this nice old tawny, purchased in 1990 according to Nan, my pop was an ex submariner so he collected anything that was slightly related to subs. He served on the Otway incidently, as it's Chief Electrical Engineer.
I hope it has mellowed nicely,it would be a shame to find it turned to vinegar.
Oh by the way Rick,
do I win the Torpedo
If not, I'll settle for a picture of it.

Nice Philly Grand T-shirt ;-) is Berkfinger a member here?
oh and by the way... as far as making a lame attempt at winning the prize... join the queue!
but i like the idea of all of us taking a photo and posting it here every time we stop in holbrook. how about a prize for the first person to get a photo of themselves standing next to the submarine eating a pie whilst reading AT?

Haha yeah righto, Wez's rules are a go.
Hey Richard, are the pies worth the drive or what.
And yeah it was a lame attempt, but i tell you what, that port, mmmm hint's of chocolate and a nice dose of sultanas. Was a little bitey at first but now it's been in the decanter for a day or two it is smoothing out well.
And yeah i think old Berkfingers a Trock member, free advertising.... Maybe i'll get a shoutout next gig haha.
