That (40-50K) will get you a 16 channel. For just a little bit more you could get the 24 channel nick. Why not just spend the extra. I think you'll be happier that way

I actually have a neve mixer... problem is it's in modules in cardboard boxes under my workbench waiting for a day when I'm not soldering someone else's thing!

Re: New AMS Neve Mixer
Hi there,
In my opinion this is a game changer if the sonics are up to scratch
It could decimate the lower end used Neve market and give any new console (1608,5088) a run for
the money.
Fully customisable (inc colour) great features and its only 200km away from me.
Must stop now ....before I actually order one !!
Cheers

Custom Series 75 Console Makes its Way to the US of A
Posted on October 7, 2010
The new Neve Custom Series 75 prototype – manufactured in Byron Bay, Australia – is set for its US debut in November at one of the audio world’s biggest events, the Audio Engineering Society (AES) Convention held in San Francisco.
AES Conventions are hosted annually in both the United States and Europe, attracting a large and varied audience of music industry professionals. The conventions include a number of workshops, tutorials, and technical papers with the renowned trade show floor offering attendees extensive learning, networking and business opportunities.
This year the convention will have on display the Custom Series 75, a creation of Neve Custom Manufacturing in Australia, that is changing the face of analogue consoles with its flexible design options intended to individually customize each model.
Audio giant VintageKing Audio have been appointed as the exclusive agent for distribution within the US, and the console is set to be available for purchase within the coming months.

$35K AU for a 16 channel. I think you might just be right Nymo. This could take the @ss out of the market for second hand consoles like the 54's etc.

I sent Neve an email asking about the Custom Series 75. It just sounds so odd to have SAE or whoever the heck this company is using "NEVE" so predominately in their advertising... while Neve have pretty much said "We don't make it. We don't sell it. We don't service it. We don't support it." Apparently it is a Neve console though?
I have minimal experience with ordering brand spanking new large format consoles. How exactly does configuring the console in 8 channel buckets, choosing if you want a pair of bus compressors, choosing the colour of the wood panels and leather arm rest and if you want a stand or not equate to "changing the face of analogue consoles"? I would have thought most high end desks would have similar options?? Perhaps it is just poorly written or I'm an idiot and reading it wrong.
The manufacturing techniques they mentioned sounds interesting though. Machine built with microprocessor controlled switching that allows the recallable scenes and computer controlled testing off the production line.

AMS Neve is owned by Tom Misner who also owns SAE and...and....and....the list goes on. Hence the chained advertising. Really the only person I know of to buy their way into the music industry. Did I just say that out loud?

My first question would be - does the red leather hand rest make it go faster?

No I would have to disagree, I think Uncle Tom has worked his way into the music industry as legitimately as any other person.
Of course his methods might be considered extreme by some and quite intelligent by others.
He has a recorded history in working behind a desk etc for a number of years and doing what the rest of us have done.
He is entitled to his empire no matter how great or ungreat it may be.

Do you think the chained advertising kind of cheapens the image of this desk? Something about it just comes across as tacky to me. It is
either a Neve or it isn't... it might have been best to straighten out the marketing approach before announcing it.

I think he has definitely bought his way into the music industry, but there isn't anything wrong with it. He is a business man after all. I read
somewhere that he has $900,000,000 behind him, mostly in real estate which really solidifies the capital behind his other investments. Particularly
those within the music industry.

But this desk is meant to have real '73 preamps and '81 eq's. The idea of pulling the modules out of the chassis and seeing surface mount components and big microprocessors embedded in multi-layered PCB's?
Call me old fashioned... there is something about discrete switches with lovely hand routed wiring and single sided PCB's with hand drawn curvy traces. It is just a class and quality that nothing can touch.

anguswoodhead wrote:Yeah - but does it sounds like a REAL Neve ??????
And more importantly to me - does it have 'Chinese made' componentry in the signal path.
That's a potential deal breaker to me.
Actually who am I kidding - I'm in no position to buy this console.
I'll probably never be in the position to buy it! What am I doing here??
Apparently it is "Australian Made". I don't know what kind of ambiguity is legally allowed to
be applied to such a statement(?). Like... the final console being assembled in Australia with
all the modules, etc, etc being made in China? From all the comments I've heard it does sound
like it is mostly made in Australia using rather sophisticated automated assembly.

im not very technical...
however, i do know that microprocessing, and digitally controlled analog is nothing to write home about.

I'm not at all interested in going into anymore details with this. I don't think starting a defamation case with a billionaire is a good idea. And I'm sure Rick doesn't want this kind of stuff on his forum.
I'll just say - I do agree about the linked adverts sammas. It's a bit cheap and tacky.

the music business is full of people that have bought there way in , i dont think the boss of sae is one of those guys , he has made a fortune doing waht ever it is he does but he has being doing it for ever 30 years and buy his account he is self made lets leave him out of the thread as it will only go south
he doesnt have much love on the net , we all now that .
i have no idea what is going on with the new desk , its not something that even slightly interests me
now the aussie dollar reaching $1.20 sounds good if there are a bunch of things you have been meaning to buy doesnt it ?
