Alright here's how I think it should roll, and seeing as I'm in charge, that's how it will roll.

We'll go to someone's studio where beeznees vs Lucas will ensure. Once almighty Ricardo has come to a decision about who's microphone wins, we'll wander from studio to closest park for a snag and a beer and a debate about Ricardo's decision.

So who's got a studio right near a good park for bbq'ing... Errrrr Jim Blackfoot does?!?!?! How do you feel about this Jim?

lets get a date that Peter , Ben and Jim and can do ( on a weekend ) post it - make sure the date flies and then work backwards about the rules i reckon
the point is the BBQ meet and greet not the microphone shootout - shoot outs are for the movies not for real life !
we have waited way too long for that ( seeing the mics in real life)
you cannot buy one anyway so its more a curiousity day i reckon

but i have a mind to make the TRM BBQ run bi monthly until everybody loses interest .
and by the length of this thread that could be a while ...

if i remember correctly ben ( its been so long ) , your assertion was your mic would blow the lucas away , seeing we dont know what the lucas sounds like i reckon we give you a 1/2 hour head start to listen to the lucas before i do put up whatever one of your mics you reckon is a winner
then i join the party and we play the lucas off against what ever your choice of your mics is .
if after the title fight is over if you guys want to play shootouts and jim is amicable i will go and cook sausages
cant get more simple then that i reckon

If I'm going to go to the expense and trouble of coming down let's at least shootout a few other mics as well.

but actually the " my cannon is better then their cannon hands down " was put out there by ben two years ago , he has well and truely had enough time to change his mind or improve his mics ...nobody that is likely to come along has a real 251 or a great c12 i cannot see what kind of shoot out you can have with more then a couple of mics anyway if you have to pick an actual winner ....but everybody likes to give it a go .. i dont care too much i am having a TRM BBQ

BUT i reckon if Ben can have a listen to the lucas mic , pull out his champion from his collection and slay the precious beast thats more then enough work
for one afternoon . anything else will be icing on the cake
and some guys will just want beer and sausages .

I'll help you cook the snags Rick. I'm sure the fella's can figure out what they like best. All mics are great depending on what you want to achieve. They are tools that make music.

Sun 5th Dec has been put aside for the Barbie. I'm happy to entertain anybody who wants to hear the Lucas. Just let me know. If we want a massive mics comparison day then sure, I'll be there but lets not ruin a perfectly good relaxing day for it.

but i before you call her let me check out her vocal tone a bit
some girls have a certain tone that c-12 type mics love and some girls have a tone that makes em sound horrible

ok i am a little concerned
she can certainly sing no doubt about it , but i reckon she is an m49 / 67 type of singer (ie darker to settle her down a bit )
for this test
i would rather have a guy singer if even if he cannot sing that well to get more girth into the mic and to see what the highs are doing naturally
unless somebody has dusty springfields current contact numbers or olivia or ms striesand where your getting paid to capture the breath and sheen as part of the magic in their voice and so the bell tone of 251 /c12 is your friend , we could find things a bit strident i reckon
so i reckon and i am only speculating from having owned a c12 for ten years that laura would not be the right match and raise issues where there are none
no slight on her though she can certainly sing

well what I do is say which mic will make the best record
the best illusion of reality jumping out of the speakers after the track is mixed
which means which is the best tool and which needs the least effort
to get the result
I will bring a set of neves matched in freq response and level
my j200 acoustic , my reference headphone system and phones
my own voice for a 20 sec what is happening with this mic test
and the ability to decide which mic will sit in a mix and make a better
sounding record the easist!
Just two sources acoustic guitar and vox means that they are the only
points of reference, every mic is different
but asking a super LDC to tackle these two tasks
is more then fair if either mic is going to shine or fail it's in the meat and potatoes test
if you cannot win the meat and potatoes test hands down
then it's too close to call and everybody can relax
of coarse as you own a mic for years you learn what it does best
but this thing has been a long time getting down under
if it's not immediately doing the business I will be disappointed
if Ben can send it back to it's box I will be impressed
but end of the day my opinion is just my opinion
and only a valid judgement call at my BBQ

The term "blow the Lucas Away" is not quite what i said; it was more like "i believe that my mic will sound as good if not better in a shootout/listening test"

then we added after discussion that you would give the mic away either way via ebay auction to a agreed charitable cause .
but jeez that was years ago now because they must have to grow the lucas out of metal seeds
i reckon you can make up some new "ifs " after all this time

i am not to fussed how it plays out i am having a BBQ on the 5th anyway but if your going to have rules you might as well make em simple
and cant get more simple then one judge and you know i would be fair and call it clean and i am more then qualified

and as you seem to be giving the mic to charity anyway from your end (which is very very generous )
what if we invoke a 6 month internet silence rule from all present if you lose to the lucas and give you open book if you win ..?
(err but i dont need the heat from lucas or their lovers world over so you upfront i am stating i can only be called "the bbq host ")
if its too close to call we can discuss it together on the day.
those that are on our forum and are interested in any "sealed" results can figure out how to use the telephone
keep on muddling through the options though its all just and idea to get the bbq idea into regular rotation
